    Hi Folks,

Was hoping someone might have an insight into what might be the best, cheapest way to get Sky sports only as a package as we are about to renew our broadband and are going to get a new provider. Also, we can't get cable connections as they never hooked it up we can only connect to internet by phone line and TV from saorview aerial on the roof.

Essentially we need broadband and phone at home but we do not need all the nonsense Tv channels that seem to be included with TV packages that up's their price and as we get a number of channels through saorview this suffices for 'TV' stations.

We just want to get the Sky sports channels and broadband & home phone.

Does anybody have any recommendations on this?
Can you get just broadband & phone and then just get Sky sports as an additional package?

    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    DRayton.

The only way to get Sky Sports on its own here is through Sky Sports Mobile TV. It's relatively cheap but you can only watch on a phone, which isn't ideal for sports.

In the UK there's Now TV, but for their own reasons Sky just won't offer it here.

    Thanks ICDG for that information.

If that package is able to operate on mobile I wonder could it operate on the smart TV...
Although I guess Samsung Tv might not be able to D/L the sky mobile app...
Maybe if we can have it on a tablet/ mobile we could 'screen mirror' it which might be a work around to watch it on the bigger screen.

Is the Sky mobile app just written for phones do you know?
Or could it operate on other Os's/ tablets?

iOS and Android. it won't run natively on a Samsung Smart TV, and as far as I know all of Sky's apps are locked down so you can't output the video to a TV set (although you can with Sky Go on a laptop, but you need a full Sky Digital subscription to do that).

There is a separate Sky Sports for iPad app, but again I think you need a Sky Digital subscription to view live TV on it).

Think there's a workaround for getting Now TV here. Not sure of the setup but seen posts about it on boards.

    Which sports ?

Depending on what you want to watch it may be available on Free to Air satellite. Or perhaps a foreign sub that isn't as expensive.

Thanks ICDG, Captain, Euphoria & sugar for chiming in.

Essentially I'm trying to get the tennis all year around, the ATP, Roland Garros, Melb. Cup, Wimbledon etc. and don't want to have to get a sky package with all the nonsense it comes with. I'm looking for proper coverage as opposed to the BBC one match here one match there, cut to other match over there type thing.

Tennis is on BBC , ITV4, Eurosport ?

If you have lots of broadband AND you've confirmed it has all the matches then check http://www.eurosportplayer.co.uk/

not sure if you can get Eurosport on it's own like Setanta on a SKY type card

AFAIK German Eurosport 1 is FTA on Astra 1 but no idea if it show tennis and it's also in German so you may need to get audio from BBC Radio or similar.

You can't get Eurosport on its own via Sky - it's part of the Variety bundle. The Eurosport Player appears to be the only way, but I must say I'm unclear on how one actually subscribes from their website.

Free to air on Hotbird 13E - but no idea if they encryt for big competitions
