Hi all ,this is my first post on this forum & I really hope somebody can help me. I drive a 2009 BMW 320i E92 MSPORT coupe. About a month ago I start hearing a ticking in my engine & In the last 2 weeks this noise had become significantly louder. Dropped the car into a mechanic in Glasnevin last week he told me the timing chain guide rail had broken up & fragments were now in the oil sump. He recommended that a new timing chain kit be fitted ,so he did this & also serviced the car (total cost was a little over a grand ). After the works were finished the sound was still there ,the mechanic then told me it was most likely lower engine damage possibly rod bearing . Got a second opinion & they concurred with the previous mechanic .Apart from this problem its a great the car, mileage is low & the body is perfect.

I've gotten quotes in the region of 2500 to 3000 to fix the problem. Can anybody recommended a affordable mechanic anywhere in Dublin

Bring it to Valdelis in Motor Confidence on the Naas Road. He is a highly recommended BMW specialist across multiple forums.

It's just a thought but would it not be more cost effective to pick up another engine.i would have thought 500euro would get a decent engine and prob another 500 in labour for the right man to do the work.just a thought.

Get a price on how much it costs to repair first before even thinking of going getting a second hand engine. You have no idea what condition a second hand engine is in and the same thing could happen to that in 6 or 12 months time.

Valdas is not expensive. Whatever he charges is the right price. This won't be a cheap fix either way

Well it's been a while since I had to look for a engine but there are some breakers around that could help.i would try to get one that's still in the done car so you can verify mileage and hear it running etc.definitly have some one with you that knows their stuff.
