wiring a sub,do i need one.

    hi,i have a primare i21 amp and i am going to get a power amp and connect to the pre outs and have extra power on tap and see if i see much improvements with a power amp.the speakers i am using are audio smile kensai speakers which are small(mind you my room is small 10 x 12 feet.can i hook up a sub to the now spare speaker terminal on my primare amp,also is a sub needed in a room this size.it will be for music mainly.cheers.

    Traditionally bookshelf fail in low end because of Cabinet size (much rather floors for that purpose). If I was gong to add a sub it would be one of the rell's ( having heard one, bought it ). It added a whole new dynamic to my kefs. Both are gone now in favour of floors but really amazing difference in overall feel.

    Oh, btw adding a power amp will drive those speakers allot harder so be warned.

    Just a quick additional word, Rel (and the vast majority of commercially available subwoofers) have their own amp (with specific bass-related controls) built in so the issue of whether you want to get a sub should be determined by how you want to develop or augment you system, not whether you have a spare amplification channel.

    Given the kind of kit you've mentioned in your post, I'd encourage you to to some further reading on integrating a sub with stand mounts of that calibre before making any final decision.

    Oh, btw adding a power amp will drive those speakers allot harder so be warned..........cheers.they say greater than 40watts and are very inefficient 83db.i will not be playing them loud just wanted to have a little extra head room.

    Given the kind of kit you've mentioned in your post, I'd encourage you to to some further reading on integrating a sub with stand mounts of that calibre before making any final decision......cheers.i just wanted to see if it was viable and play around with things a little and see,i am actually quite happy with the sound but never used a sub and cant leave things alone anyway(you know what i mean)
