Underwriters?

What do they do? I went through the mortgage application with the bank branch. Everything seems ok and it's gone to the underwriters. What happens then? What do they look at? What problems could arise?

Underwriters are basically the decision makers. They look at all your submitted information, analyse your credit worthiness etc before signing off on the mortgage or declining to issue one etc
