Iron went on fire

    My iron went on fire this morning!
    Should the fuse board not have tripped?

    All electricity went off last week and landlord came over and done something.

    Not necessarily.
    All electricity went off last week and landlord came over and done something.

    Most likely unrelated to the iron incident.

    The first line of defence is supposed to be the fuse in the plug but an appliance with a powerful heating element like an iron or a kettle would have a 13A fuse in the plug thereby enabling it to use up to 3 kW before the fuse blows. Think of an old-fashioned two-bar heater but with three elements glowing red and churning out heat, that's how much power you can draw off a regular plug before anything will blow.
