Friends in limerick

hi, i'm not sure if this is the right place to post. i'm recently single (female btw) and while i'm not looking to get back into a relationship i am looking to get back out into the world and create a life for myself without a partner but i feel very isolated as all my friends are attached and have their own lives and no one has any interest in doing anything with their single friend! i'm looking to make new friends to do things with, get out and about, i'm not a big drinker so socialising without pubs and clubs (i do the pub and club scene on occasion but it isn't the focal point of my weekend). i've got kids so my time off is restricted. i'm in west limerick and there is a lack of clubs/groups that i can join to expand my social circle locally. i feel really pathetic posting online lol but figure i've nothing to loose and everything to gain! i'm just going to point out that its not that i dont have friends, i just dont have single friends that can give up time to do stuff once in a while and i dont want to be the 3rd wheel in their relationships either!

Online dating sites are actually good for meeting friends. People might ostensibly be looking for something romantic but friendships can be made through them too.

The other good way is to take up a hobby of some sort and then join a club. You'll meet plenty of new people that way and a fair few of them will be single.

What are your interests, and are you able to travel around Limerick - get into Limerick city?

ive tried the dating sites, but the sad fact of the matter is and i'm not trying to come off big headed here but i'm not exactly kicked looking so all i'm getting is one night stand offers and no thank you on that lol! i can get into the city but i'm limited to certain times when i dont have kids so its not really easy to commit to clubs and groups if you get me

Don't feel pathetic about posting online, sure aren't we all doing it :pac:

I was living out West Limerick when I first moved back to Limerick and found it impossible to make friends. Since I've moved into the city it's a lot easier as I've joined various groups i'm interested in.

I would recommend that you check out 'Girl crew Limerick' on facebook. I've not been to any of their events yet but they regularly run different outings, nights outs etc. A friend of mine has been to a couple of their meet-ups and has made some nice single girl pals out of it.

If you've no particular burning interests and not a big fan of pubs etc then you might want to consider volunteering.

Online dating in West Limerick is dire, it really is! I received my first message in months yesterday and this is how it went down :pac:

i do volunteer, but everyone seems to be married, and the one single person there is 13 years younger than me lol! i'm savage at sports but i dont have a lifestyle that means i can commit to training 3 nights a week, i hike, a lot, but i'm on my own doing it lately because no one wants to go with me. its not that i'm not opening to trying out new things or anything but i'm getting withdrawn being on my own

Would joining your local Macra na Feirme be of any use?

They do still exist as I often see photo's from friends facebooks' of their get togethers, and it isnt just for farmers.

Macra is a great suggestion. The West limerick one is very active as well. I have two cousins that are very involved with it and they would always be out and about doing things with it.

I go to TRX in The Training Room a few times a week. Lots of nice people there. Also, maybe consider something out of the box like acting classes?

I'm not sure when the next Limerick boards.ie meet up is but that would be another good place.

And you are not weird to come online - it's tough to make friends when it doesn't revolve around drinking!

Would you look at meetup.com? There is heaps of stuff from hiking groups, walking groups, board games groups to book clubs!
