A big reason I can't get into the whole Shield facing off stuff is that the characters have been dreadfully mishandled this year imo.

There was a great opportunity to turn Ambrose heel earlier in the year when he was playing the sidekick to Reigns. You even had Stephanie pointing out to Ambrose that he was Reigns' lackey. It would have been a great time after he lost at Fastlane to turn him heel, or even after his disappointing loss to Lesnar at Mania, but instead he staggered on as a lacklustre babyface.

Reigns meanwhile clearly hasn't been working as a babyface champion. A heel turn for him would have freshened up his character and given him believable motivations - wanting to get back at the fans for turning their backs on him etc. But instead he has staggered on as a stale babyface as well.

And then there's the most criminal waste of all: Seth Rollins returns to a gigantic babyface pop after being out for ages injured. They run these great clips showcasing his gutsy fight back to in-ring action. It's a situation that is almost identical to the one that saw HHH come back in '02 to an insane babyface reaction, and what do they do? They turn him heel. It's such a mess.

Plus you sense they got scared by the ratings and decided to throw together a Shield triple threat match to try to stop the decline. But I think the decline is symptomatic of poor planning, which the Ambrose title change and this upcoming match typifies. With more careful preparation and the right timing, this could have been a fantastic Mania main event instead of a throwaway match on a B show.
