Yep, Lewis was gifted a win because Vettel couldn't keep his car on the track.. 3 times.

Nice shout out to the GOAT from Hamilton!

I hate Lewis so that's a downer. Good race from Bottas to get on the podium.

Rosberg. Wow he doesn't have "it" Verstappen has "it"

Rosberg should look at the replays of his wheel to wheel stuff with Max and learn how to do it properly

I'd say that the only thing that would have made Lewis happier was if he came around for the last chicane to waved yellows and and Rosberg in the wall by the pit entrance.

They managed to find a celeb that actually follows motorsport, must have been a mistake.

Next week; Baku and a crap load of 90 degree corners.

Rosberg really isn't a World Champion driver and I think it'd be a travesty id he won it. I'm no Hamilton fan either but that's just because he's a flute but it's hard not to believe that had Hamilton been in Rosbergs situation in the last 10 laps he's have probably nabbed 3rd

Rosberg is a very quick driver in clean air but his racecraft leaves a lot to be desired

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,206 ✭✭✭Zcott

Bit of a snorer of a race, despite some decent overtaking. Championship battle is now definitely on...but does anyone see Rosberg putting up a serious fight?

He doesn't have the mentality for it. When things go wrong he gets very dejected and doesn't seem to be able to dig deep when it matters most. Verstappen made a clown out of him today too

The interview with Sebastian and Lewis on Sky right now is some great tv!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,469 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Vettel and Hamilton are on sky, they're a slightly annoying pair

At least they found those seagulls on Vettels onboard

It's grand for Nico to slam the door on Lewis, but not the other way around :) Lewis had the inside going into the first turn, and people are complaining he didn't let someone ahead of him in the championship, go around him on the outside? Jeez lads.

Anyway, Rosberg...tsk tsk tsk. The one pass he actually had to work for (with virtually all the rest of them being DRS passes down the huge straight), and he fluffs it. I've said it before, he's super fast, but when it comes to racing, he's streets behind Lewis, Seb, Ricciardo, and the rest of what I'd call the top tier drivers. As someone rightly said there, were the roles reversed, you'd have fancied Lewis for 3rd.

Nico was a right muppet when being interviewed in Sky too, he said something to the effect of being "pissed off", and when the interviewer apologised to viewers watching for the language, he got all snarky and told her not to apologise for him, that he can apologise for himself. Shut up Nico, you ballsed up your own race by being impatient at the start, & then fluffed the only overtake where someone actually put up a fight.

Verstappen is a quality defensive driver though, he has such a deep rooted competitive hunger, that I reckon if he was in a top car, with another year or two behind him, he'd be near unbeatable.

Whoever (or whatever) dictates Ferrari strategy needs to be looked at and quickly. This is the second time this year that track position whilst leading was compromised under virtual / safety car conditions with a very poor tactical decision. In the days of Ross brawn at Ferrari when there were more variables like fuel as well as tyres to be considered, the Scuderia were peerless in making the best tactical calls. Today they are a laughing stock on the back of yet another strategic cock-up. They have no wins to their credit this year when there were opportunities to bag up to three. It's a shambles and not a particularly funny one either. They should've won the world championship in 2010 and threw that away with the same characteristically blundersome performance as today's. On that occasion a very capable man was fired and there were all sorts of promises that things would change and this wouldn't happen again. Obviously groundhog day happens quite frequently in Marinello... :(

I'd agree with that. Take all obstacles out of Rosberg's way and he'll win you a race. Put him in traffic and he'll flatter to deceive. Ham/Vet/Alo with that Merc would have at least got past Verstappen who was clearly in an inferior car. Don't worry about him winning the WDC this year, Lewis has it under control. The first few races were just a blip on the radar. Normal service has been resumed.

I'd still rather see my man Alonso win it, but I don't think that's going to happen this year...

Great start by Vettel and the Ferrari looks to be a bit faster but again they messed up strategy wise. Would have been nice to see Vettel win. Nice to see Bottas and Williams get a podium. Rosberg losing it he needs to dig deep if he wants to become a driver world champion and not just give up. If he gives up Hamilton will have it again this year. He should have been able to get by Verstappen he had the better car Vettel or Hamilton in that car would have. I think it was his tyre touching the white line that sent him spinning am surprised that none of the commentators mentioned this during the race.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

There you can watch the Seagull interview. Hilarious from Vettel and Hamilton. http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12040/10311774/sebatian-vettel-i-watched-the-seagulls-and-i-locked-up

And in defense of the Ferrari strategy, even Wolff then said that there was 1-2 seconds difference in race time overall with one versus two stop. So Ferrari rolled and lost as they still have the weaker car but they are closer to Mercedes what is important.
And for Rosberg, I think he is mentally beaten by Lewis, who seems absolutely happy and content now. 40? points advantage demolished in two races, with in Canada now an unusual driver error.

It's interesting that the collision back in Barcelona has seemed to derail Rosberg's title hopes, the same as the collision in Spa 2 years ago did.

Rosberg always seems to come off worst when the two of them touch, and Lewis seems to come off worse when they plough into each other. That probably shows that Lewis never gives an inch, whereas Nico usually has to pull out of a manoeuvre.

As others have said, I reckon normal service has been resumed in the championship, and Lewis will probably dominate the championship from here unfortunately. Lewis has turned into a enormous douche the past few years, but you can't deny he's the far superior of the 2 drivers.

I'd favour Lewis to win the title, but there is so much involved that large pointr defecits can be wiped in 2-3 races. Crashes, DNFs, cock ups etc. So much involved. Based opurely on racing and all things going smoth for both Lewis and Nico I would back Lewis 7/10 times. Lewis really needs to work on his starts!

Agreed, had Nico been a tad more patient at the start here, he'd have saved himself all that hassle. Lewis's starts have been very poor, & seven races in, they don't look like they're improving. Nico has the speed and the car to win the title this year, so Lewis has his work cut out for him.

Can anybody explain to me how Kimi was told to go on fuel saving mode thus cooling his tyres while Vettel was on attack mode for the whole race?

Other way around for me. Much more likely Lewis will win out over the course of a season if their luck is the same - he's the better driver. Looks much more comfortable in his skin after bagging that 3rd title he wanted too, always looks to be less pressure on him during a race weekend.

Rosberg isn't doing himself any favours with these performances in relation to his contract negotiations either. :pac:

Driving style, trying to overtake more ... even Rosberg was saving fuel and I think in the end Vettel also saved fuel as he couldn't catch Hamilton.

Being in traffic and dirty air leads to more drag which leads to higher fuel consumption. There is also no denying Seb has a lot more finesse than Kimi at this stage of their respective careers. Seb has always been a pretty smooth driver which leads to better fuel consumption

Probably discussed already but ..... Fuel saving in formula 1 is beyond being ridiculous

Whoever came up with that idea should be doused in petrol and ....ohhh wait

Lewis cant nail the getaway though, which for me, is always going to put Nico in front at most races. The Merc, even in the other Merc, is damn difficult to pass...so I dunno, I don't think Lewis is out of the woods yet. Another DNF for Lewis and there's Nico's large lead practically restored too. Interesting to see what'll happen :)

You see it when they have to drive to a delta, & can't push to attack or push to defend. It's ridiculous to think that it adds anything to the sport, all it is is a PR message about how eco friendly F1 is (when everyone knows a globe trotting sport that uses planes, trains, ships, trucks & cars is anything but).

Fill the tanks, & let them at it
