Early GNIB renewal

Hi everyone! Did anybody renew a GNIB card a month or two before the expiry date? Do they give new card for 12 month or 12+ if renewed early? Can it be a problem getting Stamp 4 after 2 years? I mean if expiry date is shifted and ends before 2 year period. Thanks
