Advice on planting a boundary hedge for privacy

    Just looking for advice on the best hedge that I could grow at a back of a house for privacy and security ( making it difficult to access).

    House I'm looking at has security issues at the back of it and I'm looking to put in a high fence and a high / thick hedge for privacy and security.

    Fences need planning over a certain height.

    Leylandii will grow as you watch it but will be a pain in the arse for you and everyone around you.

    Laurel is nice, grows quite high, is relatively fast growing and screens sound brilliantly.

    Privet looks nice

    Holly would be best but will takes years to grow.

    Max height to the rear is 2000mm with regards to fences.

    Other than that you are looking at mature hedging, tress etc which may be expensive.

    A hedge is just a high-maintenance fence.

    I have a griselinia works a treat for privacy. You need to trim it twice a year but I'm happy to do that for the privacy it gives

    Whitethorn is a good native hedging plant for both security and privacy. I would wait until autumn to plant some bare root stock.

    They can cut it to the boundary line, once they return the cut bits. Of course it's nice to not have them do it but if you can't access their property it's up to them

    I moved into a house where there was previously a hedge but has been cut down, just about seven stumps left.

    Would I be OK planting a new hedge between these stumps or do i need to try and dig them out?
