I am really excited about potential prospect of working as an ICO. I have worked in private sector for years now and pay is very poor unless you are very specialised. For teh majority of us we are all paid under 40k. I would love the chance to work here. It sounds so interesting and I love the idea that you just work your hours unlike private sector where you are always on and never get overtime unless you are a factory shift worker.

You do know a CO wage is 25,339 starting off? I mean the 25% makes a huge difference, then sunday pay makes another huge plus. But your not gonna be pulling in 40k plus for a good few years. Just keep that in mine if thats your soul purpose for the job. But in the end the benifits out weigh the cons. Overtime on shift work however is not a plus because you need them gaps.

Did anyone have idea of how many pple needed to be employ?

They will create a panel that will probably last 2 years from the formation date. They will then take batches of new recruits in as and when they need them due to staff departures. Impossible to really tell how many will be taken off the panel!

Does any one know or can clarify please how is the shift allowance calculated. I know it stated in the booklet that it's 25% of the pay. So am I correct in assuming it is simply (Eur25,339 basic salary + 25% = 31673.75 per annum)

Also it stated a Sun premium is paid, does any one know how much or what % would that be?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭tombliboo83

It’s 25% on top of your basic as you’ve outlined. Sundays are double time at your basic rate.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 katiexo

Can anyone clarify expected overall salary with Sundays etc

thanks @tombliboo83 👌. So if i have my maths correct .... it's 48 Sundays a year and you are bound to work atleast half of them i.e. 24 which works out around Eur197 per sunday x 24 Sundays = Eur4728 roughly. And then a BH premium aswell which is mentioned by a few posters on page 36.

The reason I am asking all this is to see if it's worth my while doing it...I am on vetting stage and was having Buyer's Remorse 😄 when reading some of the commentary on this thread that the place has gone to dogs. Currently earning 40k in pvt sector. 37k is not fantastic, however it is not bad to begin with in the civil service.
