So as a hardened single speed commuter im thinking of adding to my fleet. I'm eyeing up the virus dee 26/29 my question is would I be able to use it on trails here or are trails to technical? Or can you race it cx?

I'm out in swords and saw the cx race was held in the ward valley park.

    Cheers

You can do the 'B' Races on a MTB. If you are awesome and win loads you'll get bumped to the 'A' races and have to get a Cross bike.

Lenny of this Parish did a load of Races on a Single Speed Cross bike.

love how the expression 'x of this parish' has been cropping up in this forum lately.

is it a single speed category or is it a case of entering and mashing away? oh and 26 " or 29er?

I know a guy who has raced the Biking Blitzes on a single speed MTB. Didn't do too badly either.

I used to finish mid pack on single speed CX. Single speed definitely isn't a huge disadvantage for CX, but practice your mount and dismount and running with the bike cos some things you just can't get over. I'm going single speed again this year for the flatter races. I don't think the virus would be much good tho tbh. Not a big triangle for shouldering the bike, flat bars and mini v brakes. The genesis day one in the ads would be a better bike for sscx imho.

My main commuter/ bike is a on one pompino, love it to bits. sorta on the same lines as that?

Sadly with kids and a missus who works shift (and working saturdays myself) im short on time, so im looking for an excuse as a "fun"bike, something i possibly could do some off roading, winter commuting and possibly race one time in a B class, just wondering if i could turn up with one and not be turned away? ( if that makes sense?)

You would be better racing the pompino - Stick a set of CX tyres for about 30 quid. Some races insist on CX bikes. I did a round last year (in swords iirc) on a mates pomp. It was very capable.

SSCX involves a lot of this:

Lenny mc on a slightly off topic where do you train fir cx? Anywhere you'd recommend in the northeast. (Dundalk/drawda)

Cheers lenny. Git a 2nd hand cx bike yesterday and anxious to have a rip on it. Might see in bellurgan park suitable either that or hope the farmer behind my house could turn a blind eye to use of his field
