Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As part of the remit for The Gentleman's Club is (or was?) men's health, I thought I would highlight this with its own thread.

    Men's Health Week in Ireland

The Final Countdown to Men’s Health Week 2016 has begun ...
We’re nearly there. The clock is ticking. It won’t be long now until International Men's Health Week (MHW). This year, it will run from Monday 13th until Sunday 19th June 2016. The theme in Ireland will focus upon ‘Men United - for Health and Wellbeing’, and the key question is: ‘are we winning?’ If the answer is ‘no’, then it’s time to join with other people to do something positive and practical about it! To find out more about the week and how you can support it / get involved, visit: www.mhfi.org/mhw/mhw-2016.html

    Get on the Ball
The 'poster boys' for Men’s Health Week 2016 are Martin O’Neill (Republic of Ireland Team Manager) and Michael O’Neill (Northern Ireland Team Manager). As leading sporting figures, they certainly appreciate the need for members of their squads to look after themselves. However, did you know that men can cut their cancer risk by up to a half simply by choosing a healthy lifestyle?

During Men’s Health Week 2016 (‪#‎MHW2016‬) we are asking the question: ‘are we winning?’ ... The good news is that men’s cancer survival rates are improving, and the number of men who are smoking is also on the downturn. Long may it continue!

    Men and Healthy Relationships
Most men want to have healthy and happy relationships. Many do. But things sometimes turn nasty, and some men become victims of domestic abuse. Domestic abuse is physical, sexual, virtual, financial and emotional abuse by a partner or family member. If you are experiencing domestic violence or abuse you are not alone. For help and support to get your life back on track, contact: Amen - www.amen.ie (RoI) or the Men's Advisory Project - www.mapni.co.uk (NI) ‪#‎MHW2016‬

    A new twist:

    Men's Financial health weak

    Tuesday 14th June 2016

AMEN is a voluntary group providing a confidential helpline, a support and information service for male victims of domestic abuse. We are supporting Men's Health Week with a series of short articles on the effects of domestic abuse on men's health and relationships. Our theme in this article is Men's Financial Health.

"I am the victim, yet it is me that will probably have to move out of our family home".
    http://www.amen.ie/victims.html#6

Money is frequently a factor for men who have been subjected to domestic abuse. Money problems are as diverse as being denied access to bank accounts, being allocated a weekly allowance, or perhaps paying a mortgage on the family home as well as paying for his rented accommodation. Our goal at AMEN is to empower men who have been subjected to domestic abuse to get their lives back on track.

Please follow the link to read more details on the types of abuse suffered by men.

    ‣ 2014-Annual-Report.pdf

'We hear them. And we're here for them'.

Every day men share their money worries with us on the AMEN helpline.

Callers describe their poor financial health. They tell us that they feel unable to manage day to day living expenses for example, child maintenance payments, rent/mortgage payments, legal fees, food and clothing.

Men feel a failure when they cannot pay for the promised school trip or birthday present for their children. They feel their role as a provider for their children has been undermined by the actions of their abusive spouse or partner.

The male victim who leaves the family home does not have access to a refuge. When a man moves out from a dangerous situation in the family home he is not regarded as homeless; even though he can no longer live in that house. Men are often forced to sleep in cars, their workplaces and friends' houses; which also impacts on their mental health.

AMEN supports men who have been subjected to domestic abuse by working with them on their financial health. We provide information on domestic abuse and the legal remedies available

    Are we winning?

A great number of men we support tell us that they have money worries. We generally referred these men to MABS, the free Money Advice and Budgeting Service https://www.mabs.ie/ Financial abuse is one form of domestic abuse. The perpetrator may be a spouse, partner, relative, son, daughter or parent. The victim may be single, married, cohabiting, young or elderly.

    • For additional information on Elder Abuse please see the HSE website.

If you have any concerns about domestic abuse or if you think you may be in a domestic abuse situation, remember...

'We hear you. And we're here for you.'

Please talk to us on the AMEN helpline (046) 902 3718 or talk to your Family Doctor, a member of An Garda Siochana, a Social Worker or Women's Aid.

Just to add here, at the risk of hijacking this thread, given my own recent experience, which are described elsewhere in this section.

Go get the PSA test done for Prostate Cancer
    http://www.cancer.ie/cancer-information/prostate-cancer#sthash.n6C3AHih.dpbs

Yes I know it is a somewhat discredited test but now with MRI's available, if in doubt, check it out.

I had ZERO symptoms and if I had not done the unscheduled PSA test OI would be dead in 3 to 5 years from it
