How to fix a cigarette lighter

Hi.

I've an Opel Corsa D - the cigarette lighter socket doesn't work. I've changed the fuse plug and made sure the cigarette lighter socket itself was clean and had no debris in it.

But it still doesn't work. I need to have it working for a dashcam I've bought. So anybody got any ideas as to how I can go about sorting it out myself?

Fit a piggyback fuse to the fusebox that will supply your 12v even if the actual socket for the cig lighter doesn't work.
Open the adaptor and remove the powered PCB and solder that directly to the wire from the piggyback fuse.
or just buy one ready made.

How did you determine the socket was faulty?
I have seen sat nav and other devices not working when plugged in to some sockets. This can be caused by the reach of the plug where it does not make contact with positive terminal.

Get some sandpaper and sand the positive terminal. It will be the circular contact point inside the socket.
