Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

England need to keep playing the way they are and maybe bring on a few subs. Wouldn't be bright to start dropping back.

England deserve to be ahead to be fair.

I was tempted to say the Russians offer very little threat but that'll only lead to a goal.

I thought English commentary was always the best?

After some heroic saves, the keeper was then too far off his line for the free.

These boys better not go back to Russia or they'll end up in the gulag in Siberia

    Great control from sterling

Rooney was good to be fair

If Akinfeev was a regular sized goalkeeper it would've been comfortable.........but only can beat what's in front of ya and all that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Sterling and Kane off, bring on Milner and Vardy, get them on break.

That would take tactical nous that Hodgson just doesn't have.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭ankles

Clever free kick. Obvious dummy, keeper never properly reset himself which they rarely do because they usually don't have a chance to, then get Dier to wallop it as hard as he can at the keeper's side. Well thought out.

Dear God that's not a good substitution

Wasn't even a great free kick. No where near the corner.

I'd take Kane off too... He must be tired.

Suddenly Keith Andrews doesn't seem so bad.

Putin will be sending these lads to the Gulag if they don't equalise.

One step further to his right and he probably would've saved that. Enjoying this game though

Seriously lads how the hell was that a free kick, it wasnt at all, the goal keeper made a massive mistake. The ball was no way near the post, just terrible keeping

Bring on Vardy, Russia will be pushing up

Yeah because that's the way things work these days in Russia.

The decision to award that free to England is the worst refereeing decision I've ever seen at International level. A nutmeg in that scenario does not mean the opposing player is obliged to step aside or move out of the way of the player who performed the nutmeg. The Russian player simply turned his back on Deli Ali who proceeded to jump into him. Happy for England. But a truly shocking and unforgivable decision by the referee.

    Good decision imo

A familiar theme in this tournament.

Turned over to ITV from TV3 as I was tired of listening to Trevor Welch and Keith Andrews. Lasted about five minutes before I changed back though. The choice of commentary between the two stations is extraordinarily poor!

'Twas never a free anyway btw. Manufactured be Alli jumping into him! Shocking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭ankles

England will now lose the midfield totally and will desperately hang on for the rest of the match

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Seriously. This is made for Vardy now.

Better chance of him creating something than rooney in fairness. Fine player if he could stay fit

Russia bombing forward. Space down the left. Vardy would run riot now.

    Captain Rooney off lol

He did ok in the middle tonight but he was under no pressure whatsoever.

    Dier looks very composed.

he got his tactics right tonight, and has for the qualification group, did for Fulham also. Bit of a harsh criticism. unlucky tonight not to be 3/4 up at this stage and thats with an underperforming Kane and Sterling

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 848 ✭✭✭Superhorse

The fact Sterling is still on the pitch is a testament to how bad a manager Hodgson is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

There's no chance of Russia scoring, they never were going to(unless Smalling feels like scoring for them). All England had to do was score a goal to avoid the draw. This is as bad a Russia team that there's been for a long time.

I take it you missed that France v Ireland game, you may have heard about it.

Hell Skrtel this afternoon was worse.

Is Harry Kane a dead ball specialist?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 45 The Force Within

A familiar theme in this tournament.

Yann Sommer the stand out so far, with weaker teams in it I suppose its to be expected, But the Russia goalie has plenty of experience shouldnt make a mistake like that

Lads did Keith Andrews say France looked good without Veratti last night?

That's Italian international Marco Veratti? The player who's not even at the tournament due to injury?

It is the most infuriating thing in mdoern football for me.

In trying to reward skill and innovation, referees and commentators think a nutmeg whereby you simply put it through a player's legs and then run straight into them is a foul and should be rewarded with a free.

There is a such a huge difference between the clever nutmegs from the side that Suarze does routinely and that ****ing stupid piece of "skill" Deli Ali did.

All you have to do to get a free nowadays is knock it through a lad's legs and run into them as theatrically as you can. F**k off.
