    No, c*nts.

And it's such a horrible thing because the huge, huge majority of England fans are just decent blokes, wondering why Harry Kane is taking the bleedin corners.

    Great statement. :pac:

    What happened before those pictures?

Your last point makes no sense.

If you are attacked by a mob you tend to run away.

I know if I was attacked I'd run and not try and engage by throwing chairs back at them.

Really have to question why the police are so underresourced for situations like this. Seems like they have been told to just toss tear gas and they'll stop.

Actually all of the perpetrators of the Paris attacks last year were either French or Belgian nationals. So in a perverse way they have a point trying to call out some local ISIS support. Remember as well that in the lead up to the tournament the main security focus was on a repeat of an internal/EU based ISIS attack. Still moronic behaviour though...

How does a fan get a flare gun into the stadium?

From The Daily Mail which, admittedly isn't the most reliable source, but I thought this was funny none-the-less. Funny, and also a bit sad.
Remarkably, Russian footballing authorities denied their fans were to blame for any violence and wouldn't even accept any fighting took place.
'In fact, there was no clash,' said Aleksandr Shprigin, the head of the Russian football fans' union.
'The entire English sector just got up and ran away. There were no scuffles, police were standing there. Everything is OK. The police are working well.'
The Russian Football Union have said they will identify and punish any fans who behaved inappropriately during the match. But Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko blamed poor organisation and weak security at the stadium.
'There was no clash. That's being exaggerated, in fact everything is fine here,' Mutko said.
'When the match ended, there was no barrier between the fans. The British were upset, of course, but it all quickly dissolved.
'Such matches should be organised properly. It is necessary to separate the fans. The bad thing is that there were firecrackers and flares. There were no nets. One must understand these things.'

Russian fans seemed intent on violence. One poor bystander got knocked clean out,he looked like a local who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I was watching RT News tonight, and there was a piece by one of the reporters on it where, about three days before the game, he literally just wandered into what should be secured areas of the stadium. There was one part where he was even offered a ladder by some of the builders in there (why there were builders in there in the first place I have no idea, probably just routine maintenance and final preparations) in order to get into a more difficult to get to part of the stadium. He could have quite easily have been able to carry a concealed package etc. under his top and hide it in any one of the many nooks and crannies in the stadium if he wanted to.*

*Obviously the reporter himself didn't, he was just demonstrating the lack of security so close to the day of the match.

I remember a while back getting into an argument on here about Russia and it's hooligan/racist problems. One guy defended the place to the hilt claiming it was non-existent and even denied Irish fans were attacked over there until reams of links were provided by me.
Whatever about Qatar being immoral at least you shouldn't have to worry about hordes of hooligans and ultra nationalist skinheads kicking you around the streets which is guaranteed to happen in Russia no matter who you support.

Sticking England in Marseille along with Russia was only going to lead to one thing-violence.

I'm surprised to see how many people are so quick to judge here what Polish fans / supporters/ ultras did or did not

Firstly there was a rumour that NI and Poland where clashing against eache other in Nice. Shortly after it was confirmed that NI and Polish fans were socialising together and they were fighting together against locals who attacked them, but still number of you guys somehow sticked to the first rumour.

I think that by organising euro 2012 we already proved that we are not as bad as some thought previously and that we are different than some other members of the old communism block....
Yes there are ultras in Poland and I don't say everyone is an angel and that there won't be some small problems, but why are you so quick to say that Northern Ireland and Poland scenario will be the same as for England and Russia?

and going back to the topic - it doesn't take much to "touch" the crowd. All media 2 days ago and yesterday were saying - English did start troubles with locals police and russians. And today suddenly all media are saying Wild hordes from the east attacked poor English men for nothing.... It is a joke. I know it is not ok to attack the innocent crowd on the stadium and thisshould never happen full dot , but drunk crowd doesn't think much It was simply a revenge for all those previous clashes and midfingers towards russians and boooing russian anthem

Before I posted it they were gathering bottles and throwing them from a large wheelie bin. Just more local young lads causing trouble.

I'm after watching quite a bit of footage from last few nights and reading reports from eyewitnesses (including more credible sources). It does seem that for the most part the English fans were targeted by Marseilles locals on the first two nights and then Russians during the day on Saturday and during the night along with large gangs of Marseilles locals.

That said, it didn't take much for them to react, and react very badly, on many occasions where they were confronted.

To be fair, the Marseilles locals and Russians have behaved far worse than the English.

Does anyone remember France 98 or were you all too young?

Same thing, local thugs attacking supporters of different nationalities.

France is a cesspit of Algerian, Tunisian, Moroccan, etc with the youth taking it out on anyone and anything.

It's not difficult to get a flare or firework into the stadium barring conducting a strip search. When the Russian crowd cover was unfurled at kick-off, it was very odd to see just one line of stewards between it and England fans. Could've sparked at any time. Worst case scenario for the authorities was the late goal.

England will think they played well, but they were against an understrength Russian side with a dodgy keeper and old, slow centre-halves playing a high line. Wales and particularly Slovakia will be trickier opposition.

I still can't get my head around the selection of Sterling, Lallana and Rooney deep. None of their friendlies or qualifiers had that set up, why choose the group stage to mix it up. What was the point of trying to shipping Vardy and Kane out wide to accommodate Rooney in the Portugal game? For the two of them to lose confidence and then change it again? Kane was terrible tonight.

Why on earth would they do this? The Russian gangs seem to be social butterflies and have friends everywhere they go.

One would have assumed that the Russians wouldn't be particularly fond of the North African locals in Marseille and vice versa, can't see much collusion going on there, but I have no idea.

Are you for real? The English shadow home secretary himself doesn't even try to defend the action of English supporters who had engaged riot police.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36506917
Earlier on Saturday, shadow home secretary Andy Burnham had said England fans' behaviour was "embarrassing", given the terrorism threat to France.
It's fairly clear that plenty of English and Russian supporters were more than happy to knock lumps out of each other and riot with the police.

Yes, in retaliation, what would you do if a gang of foreigners/locals were coming to attack you, calmly walk away?
Hes not there, and hes got to say he doesnt condone 'it'.

No one is arguing there arent dickheads who travel but this has all been started by people who have an agenda and the BS aimed towards the England supporters is a joke.

Im more concerned about the safety measures, there is none, we couldve had another Hillsborough/Heysel in the stadium last night. But sure lets blame England for that too.

Media in the UK seem to be going with the line that despite the result overall it was very positive from England and they played brilliant, particularly in the first half.

They seem to all be omitting the fact that, again particularly in the first half, Russia were terrible. Worst team so far in the tournament. Apart from a brief spell in the 2nd half they didn't really get much better.

Yes England did create lots of potential chances, but Russia were so poor than any team would be expecting to create those chances. Russia simply let England steam into them, England full-backs had such an easy job that they spent most of the game attacking down the flanks.

Smalling and Cahill had very little to do all night. Russia had very little to offer going forward so of course England, who dominated the ball, could commit to attack and any team that can commit extra players to attack as they fear nothing in defence is going to look good.

However, Kane had an off night, maybe it was nerves, maybe the step up is too much as although he has had two great seasons in EPL he has never tasted CL or this level before. IMO it was just a poor night for him rather than a step too far.

Lallana, a poor player, not near the level required. Always shows some good footwork in matches but simply not good enough at this level. A poor indication of options available to England that he is in the squad, never mind starting the game.

Sterling, well what a terrible performance. Depay gets rightly lambasted for such a terrible season for Utd but in all honesty Sterling was little better tonight. The guy can run fast, there is no doubt about that, but he seems to lack any final ball or even an ability to make a decision. Given the space he was afforded by the Russians it is no big deal that he made the runs he made, they seemed to let him run and simply close him down without a tackle to let him feck things up all by himself.

Rooney, he had a decent game. Started off with too many Hollywood passes, and occassionally would revert to them but in the main he did the job, but again, he was offered so much time and space. It appeared the Russians were quite content for Rooney to be sitting around midfield and spaying 40 yards passes to either wing. He only really became dangerous to them when he got more advanced, his volley for example, but he did far too infrequently.

Alli and Dier both had good game, but really that free kick should have been saved. Much like Bale's for Wales, although his was better, the keeper and defence were poor. The Russian wall was too far to their left and one of the defenders actually was standing behind the wall at the time the free was taken!

Deschamps for France made a few key subs as France toiled in the first game, taking off Griezman and Pogba, both big calls. Roy totally failed when Kane and Sterling needed to be taken off early in the second half. It will have done nothing for Kane confidence to remain on the pitch having such a poor night and how any manager can leave Sterling on is beyond me.

A draw in the 1st game of a tournament is never a bad result, but that Russian team was so poor in really feels like a bad result. Still think England have more than enough to get out of the group, even a draw against Wales and then beat Slovakia, but the signs are not good for this team when they meet up with a team with a decent midfield and even a functioning attack.
