Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Stephen Alkin " For the first time at a European Final, Northern Ireland's anthem", cue God Saves the Queen.

It was played last night Stephen.

Nothing political but its odd Scotland and Wales have their own anthem whilst North haven't adapted one yet? Any reason?

The unionists would probably take offence. They're a sensitive bunch.

The best of luck to the NI Team anyway.

The words "talisman" and "Kyle Lafferty" should never be uttered in the same sentence. Just sounds ridiculous.

N.I. losing their shape a bit there. Nervous start. MON wants to keep things tight here. Reckon he'd be happy with a draw.

Sadly I think its the best they can rely on. This will end up 2/3/4-0 I fear

Encouraging start for those of us who have staked our futures on a Poland/Germany double.

Not for me, I still remember that match in Windsor Park in 1993. Have never liked them since then. Worst atmosphere I've ever seen for a Republic of Ireland match.

Big pressure on Ireland but the defence seems to be holding for now.

Yes. Ireland's Call only applies to some obviously. C'mon Poland.

They're loyalists, a loyalist team for loyalist people.

Scotland and Wales are more mature as nations. NI will probably get one as time progresses. Nationalists have only started supporting them over the last 15 years or so. It was essentially a loyalist team, prior to the peace process etc, so GSTQ was the easy choice.
You could separate the Nationalists from the Protestants by who was singing it! No wonder so many Northern Irish players declare for the republic.

What did they do when England played Northern Ireland in a qualifier a while back? Did they just play God Save the Queen twice?

No, GSTQ was played once, iirc. If you look at the latest crop of players who declared for the RoI, McClean is the only one who declared for political reasons. The others declared to better their career.

Poland pulling us all over the pitch, stressing our shape.

There's four on the pitch that were still in nappies then, fcuk all to do with them

Poland look a different class to NI and it's only 10 mins in. Has the feel of a League One team against a PL team in the FA Cup. Just can't get on the ball.

Only a matter of time here.

Northern Ireland are amazingly happy to let Poland own the wings.

They're putting their entire trust that no matter how many crosses Poland put in, the lads will head it away.

Poland look like scoring soon N lre need to hold the ball

If England faces Northern Ireland will we hear the same national anthem twice? Will they all sing it together.. twice? I'm confused.

Nothing to do with the players, it's the supporters and what this team stands for.

    Yes, I am bitter.

Yep, you are coping well at the moment but fatigue will become an issue in the second half if it continues. Starting to see more of the ball over the last few mins, which is a good thing.

Surprised at Gary Linker, thought the "let's laugh at johnny foreigners name" type humour was beneath him. In any case, it's not as if Piszczek is some obscure iron curtainer.

Loving the NI jersey. Adidas really do a great job.

Pity we're stuck with Umbro's garbage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,299 ✭✭✭✭The Backwards Man

I'd say the North are holding back a wee bit for playing down the slope in the second half.

I normally like Adidas stuff but that jersey is not great. I really like the Umbro kits this year, especially the white one.
