Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hopefully the beat Sweden and show up half arsed for our game now

    Plenty of yellows too. A few more in the next game would be nice

    Wouldn't say they're too stressed either though. Old pros they are. ;)

    Plus Belgium are toothless in the final third.

    Old pros at cheating.
    They may win this match, but the last 15 mins, they havent been too solid.

    How did belgium not score there???
    But some will say excellent defending all game, and leave out the cheating, and the odd bit of luck.

    And when Ireland play the italians next week. Everyone will lose their shhit at what they are doing.

    What happens if teams are on equal points in the group? Goal difference or head to head record?

    Italy going mad in celebration. Huge team effort to get this win.

    Belgium were never getting back into this - Italy masters of tight international tournament football.

    Does no one remember world cup 2010, and world cup 2014????

    Italy are old masters, Belgium young pretenders that got found out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,930 ✭✭✭PeterTheEighth

    Italy are just so good on the attack. They have the confidence to think about how to get the ball in the net, and find the player in the best position.... like a basketball team. Belgium have better quality players, but never seemed to have any structure to their attack.

    Unreal, delighted for them. The ultimate pragmatists, always - they just get **** done.

    Belgian defence was very naive.

    Hang on a minute, wasnt the narrative that Belgium had a great team and the Italians werent up to much?

    The Red Devils were pacified by the classic Italians

    If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following tie-breaking criteria will be applied:[44]

    Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;

    Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question;

    Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;

    If, after having applied criteria 1 to 3, teams still have an equal ranking (e.g. if criteria 1 to 3 are applied to three teams that were level on points initially and these criteria separate one team from the other two who still have an equal ranking), criteria 1 to 3 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams who are still level to determine their final rankings. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 5 to 9 apply;

    Superior goal difference in all group matches;

    Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;

    If only two teams have the same number of points, and they are tied according
    to criteria 1–6 after having met in the last round of the group stage, their ranking is determined by a penalty shoot-out. (This criterion is not used if more than two teams have the same number of points.)
    Fair play conduct (1 point for a single yellow card, 3 points for a red card as a consequence of two yellow cards, 3 points for a direct red card, 4 points for a yellow card followed by a direct red card);

    Position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system.

    Fantastic result for us. Italians will sink Sweden, rest a few players and not over commit in the last game against us. We can Beat Belgium and Italy

    Fingers crossed Belgium play exactly the same way on Saturday. Ireland will murder them.

    I wouldnt describe it as cheating tbh, it's a bit cynical, but McCarthy did the exact thing against Sweden earlier. And got booked for it. You take one for the team every now and again.

    Fellaini is a waste of hair. One of the worst performances from a player in recent years.

    Based on that performance. I think we could beat Belgium. They were brutal. No cohesion and toothless in attack. De Bruyne looked a completely different player for his national team. Everything about Belgium was off

    Did you watch the same game I did? He was the only player worth talking about on the Belgium team.

    If he had one misplaced pass I didn't see it. He also got stuck in and broke plenty of play up.

    Now contrast that with lukaku who couldn't hold a ball up and de Bruyne

    For no nonsense I would say naked cynicism.
    Eder at least should have been sent off - no yellow for kicking the ball away?
    De Rossi was in Clattenburg's ear all night, complaining because he was giving away frees for fouls.
    Chiellini bundled over Fellaini in the area and no penalty? No just a chat about not doing that.

    Two great counter attacking goals, but they will be doing this against Long and Walters and I'll be very very very very angry!

    The whole Belgium team were poor Fellaini included. For people that think he played well what did he actually do? He wasn't the worst out there but he did not play well.

    Great, so if Italy beat the Swedes next, they're guaranteed top spot, so will likely rest their key players against us.

    2 massive chances missed by Lukaku and Origi could have been very different

    You're having a bubble. Clumsy isn't the word, he offered nothing, nearly gave away a goal and got in the way off them actually making some chances. Taking Nainggolan off and keeping him off was a massive mistake. I'd be shocked if he starts the next day.

    They know what they can get away with and they thread the line. They're a fantastic tournament team.
