Yeah, I hate anything that makes the people of the country I'm from look good. We're there a week and we haven't bottled any police yet. "mon t'fk.

They've been there a few days. I'd say by now they're well aware there's no curry or garlic cheese chips to be found. So if it hasn't kicked off already they won't. Give it another few days and they'll be rejecting cuisine de france baguettes for what the French boulangeries are selling. If we make it to the semi's they'll becoming back with stripy navy tops and a new sense of style.

I've been to many away games and was at Euro 2012, believe me it's once in a lifetime thing to do.

If you're watching it on YouTube at home then you'll tire of it very quickly with the same songs repeated over and over. But it's just a whole different thing being there and engrossed in the atmosphere.

Escapism from reality a few weeks for many, it's called living life. I'm not surprised to see the moaners coming out of the cupboards.

Just saw on Joe.ie...(I know, hanging my head in shame) that an Irish fan lost his match ticket and a group of lads from Derry pitched in and bought him a ticket so he could go to the match.

Just a bunch of lads over for the craic, on their holidays, looking out for eachother by the sounds of it. Let them at it I say, Id love to be over there!

Superfans is right. Good call O.P.

Yesterday on the 24th minute of the match v Sweden our fans sang "stand up for the Ulstermen" in remembrance/solidarity for a young 24 yr old N.I. football fan,who sadly lost his life.

Could just as easily been one of our fans who , looking for no bother, met unfortunate circumstances.

Now our fans have a great well deserved reputation, the Scots fans are in competition with us (but, they didnae qualify) , and theN..i fans are trying to give us both a good run for the title. The Welsh are making a real race of it,and the English are being hampered by a loose (russian/french) horse in their attempts to join us.

I'd encourage all in that competition and let's leave the action on the pitch.

Thoughts and condolence to Darren Rodgers friends and relations from this R.O.I. fan.

    R.I.P.

Feck the moaners. I don't watch much football, only really at home if my mother or brother are watching. I missed todays match but might watch some of the others. But I imagine any major sporting tournament really is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The guys over there look like they're having a blast.

I think the only chance for a lot of Irish people to experience it is if we get the Rugby World Cup.

    I'm sick of it OP.

Remember. If you are not joining in the mass self congratulatory circle jerk and cheerleading like every other one of the cheeky nandos , clap when the plane lands brigade you are a begrudger.

Counter debate is shouted down by the "Confused.com", "that'll do pig" , "sure it'd be rude not to" , click bait website subscribing disciple.

I have never seen a nation to pat itself on the back for being "sound" more than this one.

Crowd surfing blocking traffic, being a general pain in the arse is de rigeur , but sure it's all only banter.

I have my shoe off and held aloft as I type this, in solidarity with these extremely fun , enviable, morally incorruptable people.

I'm off to find a statue I can climb or a garden to urinate in , but don't persecute me, I have an inflatable hammer and am adorned in an ironic retro shamrock t-shirt .

    Counter debate is shouted down

You want to counter debate against the people in the countries where the previous tournaments were held where the police, local business owners, and local fans pretty much unanimously said they love the Irish fans and they'd have them back any time?

Why would anyone want to debate that?

They didn't enjoy it in the MGM grand when the " green army " was pulling it asunder and climbing the lion statue after a macgregor fight.

    Remarkably well behaved in fact.

I've been in Paris for 3 days, seen possibly tens of thousands of Irish fans "after a long day of beer".

In that time I've seen just 1 fight, which was started by an English man spitting on someone.

Actually the MGM grand were pretty happy to make a ton on money on it.
Pulling it asunder? That didn't happen.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what you have been seeing. what you think they been shooting all the videos for social media when sober, then phones away for the day lads.

A figure of speech. They had to be removed from prohibited areas by security.

A figure of speech that doesn't apply in this instance.

Pulling it asunder is what happened in Landsdown road in 1995 when english fans neo-nazis instigated a planned riot.

There's a huge difference between the light banter banter in the streets at Irish games, and the reports of violence and bottles being thrown at other games. If I was a local, I know who I'd rather have in town.

Ever been to a standard Irish wedding?

But I am fed up of the incessant attention seeking flag bearers with some completely ridiculous phrase trying to "out-Irish" each other. Enough with the flags......

I have seen vids of them climbing the lion, being loud, lairy, abusing aldo fans.

I agree OP. In the minds of many Irish supporters, there appears to be a competition to be regarded as 'the best fans in the world'. Nobody else is remotely interested in competing.
The attention seeking behaviour includes drunkenly hugging everyone to prove what lovable and cuddly leprechauns we are.
Yes, it's far far better than the violence and racist taunting we see from some English and Russian fans - but can't we not just go and enjoy the football like the vast majority of countries supporters?
Inane and stupid behaviour egged on by a sycophantic media who are just looking for any old story to fill the papers.

    arent we great.

It's an extraordinarily positive group vibe that has been running for years. That in itself is valuable and might steer some of the wannabe ultras in a different direction. It's harmless except when people start taking themselves very seriously at being part of it. Go and enjoy the football and have a laugh but let's not end up thinking that being an Irish soccer fan is a major responsibility. Or that you should be patted on the head regularly for it. In fact, stop looking for praise and attention for it, that's just confirming an older and less desirable stereotype about needing (foreign) approval.
