    Wow, that's impressive.
This was never on my radar as I thought the style was too close to Horizon which I could not get into.
May be something I pick up now though.

God of War [PS4 -93] reviews are pouring in, and they're mostly stellar: https://t.co/Taw58IYUuT
Easy Allies: "God of War doesn’t just feel like the next step for the franchise, but for the entire video game industry." https://t.co/MTWK1el9ew

    High praise indeed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,366 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Kotaku praised it too, said it took a while for him to get used to the new Camera angle.

That wont be an issue for me, and i'm also a huge fan of Norse mythology so its a win win.

Plenty of reviews that are less.... hyperbolic than that one. Still not seen a bad review. Looks like a solid action game.

Of course, i posted it tongue in cheek.
It does look like a great action game and one ill be picking up day one.
Its obviously something they've put a lot of passion into and after the generic mehness of far cry its a game im looking forward to with great anticipation.

Not everyone is positive about it.
Eurogamer's main negative is that the story is dull and heavy handed.

Didn't really expect the story to be great shakes. God of War 2 was complete and utter garbage in that regard but gloriously garbage.

Hopefully they made the game inclusive enough for the folks at Eurogamer :pac::pac:

The guy who wrote that review though, Huber...is a HUGE God of War fan.
He played through ALL of the GOW games again only recently on Stream in anticipation for this upcoming one.

This looks epic.... im loving the HZD stylistic vibe. High hopes for this

Which is kind of my problem with Easy Allies and Game Trailers before them. They just come across as excitable amateurs and the FF7 remake announcement at E3 is a perfect summation of that. I also kind of have issues with giving reviews to super fans rather than people with knowledge of the game type. You aren't going to get an unbiased informative review as a result.

Going by other reviews the game is quite derivative of every other triple A game out there but carries it out so well it doesn't matter. Far from the industry changer easy allies says it is!

Kind of interested in trying this. I loved GoW1 and 2, not so much the sequels. This looks like they've taken an awful lot of influence from Dark Souls combat.

Kind of a difficult one this as games can be very subjective. There's some games that haven't clicked with me but are clearly very good games based on various reviews and awards. I'd agree though that a fan of a game is likely to gloss over problems with it or completely ignore them.

I agree with this. Dark Souls and Bloodborne are constantly regarded as brilliant games, but I absolutely hate them. So i wouldn't be able to give an un-biased opinion on them. Same rings true for reviewers, which is why I rarely pay attention to them. Only the person playing the game will know if they enjoy it or not.

I hate trying to enjoy a game because I know I should rather than actually enjoying it.

It's because you're playing it WWWWRRRRROOONNNGGGGG!!!!

PS: people who don't like dark souls are hollow.

I don't think there's anything wrong with disliking a particular game. Some people just don't like certain things. I hate eggs for example. I'm not going to name the games I don't get because it leaves you open to all kinds of ridicule. I absolutely love Bloodborne btw. :)

I hate them too, purely from the gameplay perspective. They are akin to hammering nails in to your own dick over and over again. Personally, I prefer playing a game that allows meaningful progress without being ridiculously hard - the idea of being entertained by something so frustrating just baffles me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,042 ✭✭✭zl1whqvjs75cdy

I'm still in the maybe camp on bloodborne. I am a filthy casual though and just dont have the time to devote to be murdered several 100 times on a playthrough.

It is like hammering nails into your dick. But just like Dark souls when you get the right nail in the right spot and you get that feeling of ecstasy it makes it all..... Is this a private or public forum?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

I never got into Souls but Bloodborne isn't that bad once you get into it. Sure there are some bosses, where you're asking yourself what the hell is happening but haven't come across anything that has me totally dumbfounded........yet.

Just to drag it back on topic I have GOW purchased from the psn store, Digital day one delivery

Jeff Cannata on Twitter (I know him more for his tv and movie criticism but he also does video games) had the following to say:
What if Zelda had an amazing, cinematic story?
What if Last of Us had incredible, skill based combat?
What if Uncharted somehow put all the violence in context?
What if Dark Souls was approachable and clear?
The answer to all of these questions and more is God of War.

Think i saw somewhere that it's a long enough game as well.

The people being entertained arent frustrated because they get gud They arent that hard to be honest. Ive finished ds 1 to 3 and bloodborne . All it takes is patience. And dumping all your souls into your stats wisely. You can even summon other players to help you through levels or bosses

Except he is very knowledgeable on the gametype. I'm not sure what your criteria here is for a games reviewer ?
He has played every game in the series, knows it well, has played multiple other games in that genre.
Gives an honest opinion that isn't bought or paid for.

They have had other games they were really hyped for and gave them bad scores as they were let downs. They are very honest when it comes to reviews.

I know you don't like them in general, but for me they are more trustworthy than the likes of IGN or Eurogamer who in the past have had controversy surrounding some of their reviews (which is why I stay away from those big publications)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,408 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

He might be knowledgeable but he is going into that review with bias as a super fan. It means they are far more likely to gloss over glaring faults or if the game is disappointing they will be far more harsh on it.

You're just less likely to get constructive critique of the game from a reviewer with an attachment to the property like than.

Basically superfan Michael Huber is not somebody I could trust to review a game constructively without letting his emotions or preconceptions colour his opinion and be constructive in his criticism. Exhibit A:

I think we all know they havent reinvented the wheel here, but if we can stomp some ****ing heads using intuitive and satisfying combat in purty environments, we'll all be happy.
