Looking for some thoughts here folks. Our 2nd (2002) car which I just use for work 4 days a week has a dying clutch otherwise all on good working order (nct passed last week). Am I mad paying 3/400 euro on a new clutch on a car that is probably not worth that? Car is just used as a run around and buying another one could be a minefield.

The price is definitely the going rate.. You definitely won't get an NCT'd car for 400 quid.
I'd go for it. What kind of car?

Well considering what you might buy for 3 or 400, its absolutely worth doing if you are happy that its a decent car and want to keep it.
If you want to change or were due to get a new car, well that is a different story and you might be as well to stick it on donedeal for small amount.

    Go for it.
There's a lot of peace of mind to be had from knowing you have a reliable car IMO, once you're not hung up on the reg year. I regret selling my '02 car earlier this year. I knew it inside out. Now every time my newer car makes a noise I'm wondering what it might be and how expensive it will be to fix.

Ah, definitely so, shur nothing else will go wrong in that thing till next NCT at the very least :D

As far as 4-day run arounds go, it's a pretty ideal car. I would tbh. It would make more sense to me than buying someone else's problems.

    i wouldn't say a 2002 is an old car

but definitely sounds btter to fix it than take a gamble on some new car from the internet

Oh, Carisma! I thought it was Carina. Still a good car, just keep an eye on the thermostat. They stick open sometimes, making them hard to heat, and heavier on juice.

Thanks all. Think I'll get fixed alright. Just wanted a bit of assurance I wasn't mad doing it.

If I get another year out of it it will be worth it I suppose

I had 2 of these cars. First one did 212k miles before I crashed it. Gave very little trouble and the engine was still sweet at that stage. Easy enough on juice too for a 1.6 petrol. My second one was a peach too. I'd spend the money if the rest of the car is good and if it does what you need it for. Any similarly priced replacement is likely to be a heap.
