Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Great result for Iceland. Ronaldo would do well to show some respect to the opposition there

The goalkeeper was so close to his post that a simple dink over the wall would've done there, but that's not Ronaldos style I guess

Ronaldo not shaking hands with Iceland players or clapping travelling fans. For all his skill and talent, he really is a classless chap.

Ronaldo should take some lessons from his mate Bale on how to strike a freekick :)

Too bad we don't get a Dunphy rant about Ronaldo. Maybe next time :D

How is Ronaldo continually let take free kicks at vital moments in games? Any chance a team has of taking advantage of a free kick in a dangerous area is gone (unless by the law of averages, one goes in by fluke, seeing as he takes so many). Such a waste, and how he keeps masquerading as a free kick "specialist" is baffling

Not a great result for Ireland.

Portugal needs a team, not a bunch of guys in the same colour + super star + a criminal (Pepe). Iceland has very little skills, but they are a team and funny enough were playing short balls better that Portugal :-) I was hoping for Iceland to score again :-)

He is just three short of Platini's record number of goals in the finals and you are still waiting for a performance? He also has the most goals by any player for Euro finals and qualifying combined.

33m out and taking a free is nuts.

Put everyone in the box and probably a better chance.

Yep. He comes across as a spoilt brat whose ego is out of control.

Portugal clearly the better side but if the scoreboard doesn't show it, it means squat.

Good hustle from Iceland, getting a very well deserved point.

Also.. judging by the amount of royal blue in the stadium, and if Iceland has a population of 320,000 - a notable % of the population must be in France atm. :pac:

especially with ronaldo's ability in the air he'd probably have scored more often letting someone else send in a cross.

I think sometimes when people are as brilliant as ronaldo they are blind to their own limitations

Not how I expected Group F to look after the first round of games! Austria-Portugal is now a pretty massive game on Sat night! Looking forward to it! (if I can still stand at that stage...)

Ronaldo must have forgotten there's no penalties until the knockout stage.

    Hes not considered a specialist,
Also those trying to blame Ronaldo for them not winning, have you ever watched a football match, one player cant beat 11. What about Vierinha taking 30 crosses and not beating the first man, what about all the corners hitting the first man. Ronaldo was the least of Portugals problem

Better chance with him in the box, especially with his ability in the air. As much as I like Ronaldo for his individual ability, he is not a team player and for a tournament like this you need a team that's all singing off the same hymn sheet, I mean look at Belgium they're not a "team" in my eyes. They could be great but lack that togetherness you get others like Wales or ourselves even

The worst is that he always drives them as hard as he can instead of lifting them. Probably trying to repeat that cracker against Blackburn I think it was.

They should, but in terms of Ireland hoping too be one of the four best third place sides,it'd been better for us if Portugal had of beaten them.

Will they? On what basis? They are fairly sh1te. They seem to have somehow got the reputation of being a "big name" because of a golden generation about 15 years ago and featuring in Nike ads at the time , but in reality aren't. They are a middling team, no better than the majority of teams in tournament, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Austria and Hungary beat them. People continually mistake recognisable names for quality, the English fans still can't work out why they are rubbish

Lets see top 2 player in the world. 3 of the up and coming center midfielders in the world, top center back. Yeah middling team alright

Generally the "best players ever", have the ability to pull the strings for their team and dictate a game. And yes he is

Ronaldo showed no grace at the end of that game. A twat spoilt by his own hype.

Portugal have one superstar and a lot of very middling players. Like most teams in this tournamen it appears, which is strange!

    Fair play to Iceland.
    Very very noisy fans.
And their jersey looks the coolest I've seen so far, with the vertical stripe on the left hand side. Very Mod.

Yes, a very middling team. A "top 2 player in the world" who will have no influence on any game unless he scores, which is doubtful unless he's up against a cannon fodder defence with a Real Madrid midfield to put the ball at his feet from 2 yards out. After that, they are no better than the likes of Croatia, Switzerland etc and never were.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,676 ✭✭✭✭Ol' Donie

What a couple of results today.

This tournament hasn't taken off in some ways (has a single player scored twice yet?) but it's extremely interesting.

That's fairly evident that Portugal are lacking quality as it is, I think that's why the spotlight is focused on Ronaldo if they don't perform. I don't know is there a mindset in the squad that if "I" don't play well Ronaldo will win it for us attitude. Can't blame Ronaldo for everything, but his attitude sinks at times, which isn't great from a leader which he's supposed to be.

I do actually. Which is why Ronaldo tends to be non existent when he doesn't score. Did he touch the ball in the Champions League final until his peno?
