Well I got something out of it. I got about 6 months of hope that I'd get out of a job I hate and land myself on this 'too good to be true' scheme. I actually turned down another job last year because if this flop of a project. But at least it got me through a few months with hope. On more promising missions now to get out of my job.

I got fed up waiting...I went onto springboard+ and applied for the HDip in FinTech...just finished my first semester now...hopefully I'll get something out of it.

"Many thanks for expressing your interest in the IFS Advanced Level Apprenticeship. This programme will be submitted for QQI validation in Q4 2017.

Subject to successful validation, the programme will commence in Q4 2018.

If you wish to apply for IFS Specialist Level Apprenticeship, please register on www.ifsapprenticeship.ie . "

    Q4 2018 😂😂😂😂

Q4 2018 start? Is someone taking the piss or is NCI just wasting money?

Starting to sound like a scam more than anything now. I look at NCI with a very poorly view now.

Serious!? A late 2018 start? the interviews were mid 2016. 2 years to get the thing sorted

So I just got an email about going for the company selection process 19th July. Quite short notice, probably a waste of time showing up and using my precious annual leave, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt they have gotten their s**t together over the past few months.

I received it as well but will not be going as I am already doing Software Development course in NCI for free gonna finish it then maybe apply again also new job be grand

It's a bit out of the blue isn't it. I wonder is it another trip down the garden path or will it happen for real this September?

The only way to find this out is to go and meet them. :D:D

I got it too. Only thing is, its changed now. Advanced Specialist Apprenticeship is gone, and the salaries have been lowered. Also the NCI course has changed.

I know, it makes more sense now and is more realistic. I've moved jobs since and now the salary drop is going to be even more significant and the course may not be what I want. I'm still going to show up and find out more.

Did anyone hear anymore details about the 19th. It's been left very late to organise time off work, unless it's an evening event? My job is very unforgiving if I request time off close to the day

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 Kabwarriors

No nothing, I'm in the same boat it's a nightmare getting time off work, I also wonder if they'll tell us what went wrong last year I didn't even get the feedback from my interview

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,955 ✭✭✭YellowLead

No info yet. Which is hard to believe they don't have a time for us even, given that surely the companies must be arranged to be there at this stage...perhaps we will get another email saying actually it isn't happening! Evening would be perfect wouldn't it but I doubt they will accommodate that.

so we have this meetup next wednesday - then presumably we have to meet employers who will want to take a look at us. This is all going to take a few weeks, - I am not confident this will start in september.

And no news either on the details for next wednesday, people will need to take time off work for it, so this level of organisation does not bode very well.

It is ridiculous. I haven't asked for time off, I'm hoping to only take a half day but t would be good to know at this stage the format it's going to take - I know there was talk last time of a speed dating type scenario with the companies but no idea really. Frustrating! Has anyone ever tried to phone? I know the email said to not reply to it or you will be removed from the list of attendees.

and a list of other questions - do we wear suits? Are employers there? Is there a chance to network? This whole thing has been poorly organised since last year. I am still hopeful that the offering will be decent though

So we get drop fed more information. At least we know the timing. However not releasing the list of companies until the day itself is a bit mean....perhaps no compnaies are on board yet! Also no information about what the opportunity to meet the companies is. Do we all walk around quoting from table to table and get a few more items to make a pitch or will they have questions? I also noticed you are not allowed to bring a cv, but the original cv I submitted is now out of date.

If somebody here who doesn't work or who is going to the event on Monday could post a bit of info from it that would be great. Can't believe they expect us to show for that- why can't they just email the info on to us!!!

Weird. I'm signed up and didn't hear anything about this event. What in the flip is going on here?

    Mr O'Halloran was so right.

    Get out if you can!!!

Hi guys. I have applied for IFS apprenticeship associate level this year. From what I am reading here I understand that 2016 candidates have never got a chance to engage in this programme. Question arises how NCi is taking in next bunch of people if last years people aren't placed yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,955 ✭✭✭YellowLead

Maybe they didn't have enough people? I got to the initial recruitment stage, the preselection event, in 2016 and was told that in Nov 16 the company screening would take place. I underatand there were some people who went through company selection already so maybe they will be placed first??

Ya I cant believe in the short notice. I was lucky to get a few hours off next Wednesday. I wasn't gonna dare ask for the prep event off on Monday, 3 work days in advance and people gone on annual leave etc. It's about 15 months since I first applied and the company stage is only happening now. I wouldn't be surprised if they dragged it out to Sept 2018. Remember how they kept putting us off. Sept start, late winter, early spring, then the list we're kept on for a year, then Sept 2018 and now this Sept. And what if our own employer is at this event. Wow that would be embarrassing

A disguise might be needed to be on the safe side. Dye the hair, remove/ add glasses, fake a limp. If female then a fake mustache can be safely left off the list anyway.

Did anyone go to the prep session in NCI on Monday? Was it of any use?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,955 ✭✭✭YellowLead

Anyone know what the next step is? Interview I presume if any of the companies we spoke with were interested in us. Did they say at Mondays event? Still don't think it's fair they didn't distribute information about Wednesday via email.

Does anyone know if interviews we had with banks last year could still lead to an offer this year

I'm afraid I do t know the answer to that. I was part of last years second round, so only completed the initial screening. Feel sorry for everyone that did go through company screening and also interviews previously. I would imagine that they won't hold true as I think the panel exists for a year which might be lapsed now? I also think somebody would have communicated at this stage to you. But email Carol Kenna and ask.
If anybody gets an interview request from a company will you please post here so we know it's kicking off?

Hi all. I decided not to attend the recruitment evening as I am fed up of this whole process.

I decided to do it all the hard way. I applied for the HDip in FinTech at NCI last December via springboard and was successful in securing a free place on course (although I'm already in full time employment). The opportunity is there to try secure a free place (dependent of numbers).

I will admit, it has been difficult attending class three evenings 6pm-10pm per week, particular the summer semester that is due to end as the 12 week term is compressed into 10 weeks.

The course has since helped me secure employment on a technology implementation team in a bank, which pays a much better salary than the apprenticeship is offering.

The point I am trying to make is that there may not be a need to rely on an apprenticeship like this; there are opportunities to move into a better job by applying for the relevent courses yourself.

Fyi, applications for springboard courses are open now for September entry. Just make sure to look at the ICT conversion programmes which include FinTech, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, etc.

One particular person in my class has never finished college and worked in retail for 30 odd years has secured employment in AIB on a data security team (an entry level role).

I wish you all the best of luck with the apprenticeships, but remember there are other ways to progress your careers outside of this type of structured programme.

    Well done!
I am still hopeful for this apprenticeship but am definitely going to apply now for other courses. I just though the work experience part was the real value here - but it's good to know you got a job based on the course alone. Thanks for your post.

Here is the link to springboard courses for anyone interested. You can select show courses available to people in employment.

I sent them an email and got the reply that some companies are already engaging in on-site interviews and others will send a list of selected candidates probably next week, but everyone will be notified of the outcome in September

Seems to be a very tight run thing. NCI starts mid september.

Hope your interview went well if you had it. I haven't heard from any of the companies and do t expect to at this stage, so I'm going to look into part time evening courses and do it that way. Best of luck to everyone else.

Did anyone else on here make to the end? I'm due to start late September in my company and induction Oct 6th for the specialist programme in NCI. Very happy with offer...

Congrats. I hope you get what you want out of the apprenticeship. NCI courses are very straight forward. The only issue I've had with them (I studied the HDip In FinTech) is that some of the lecturers aren't very student friendly.

Congrats once again and best of luck. ðŸ‘
