Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bit of a damp squid this game, nothing happening. A draw puts both teams through

Not true. If they both lose the last match they end out on 4 points which isn't necessarily a guarantee of being in the best 3rd place finishers.

Nobody knows what I mean when I said it but I'll say it again, all the matches seem the exact same. This tournament isn't going to come alive till last 16.

Teams are far more evenly matched in this tournament than before IMO. The days of 5-0 trashings are largely gone. There's been some cracking matches, they don't need to end out 3-3 or 4-3 to be an excellent match.

One of the russian ultra twitter feeds is reporting a Polish fan has fallen from a podium not going to post link as it contains a picture.

But it was the 1st place i seen about the N.Ireland fan dying at todays game

    Great tackle Boateng

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,388 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Boateng has made some last gasp clearances for Germany in the two games so far.

    Lewandowski you rascal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,220 ✭✭✭cameramonkey

great chance for Poland, he wanted too much time to shoot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,025 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Oof, great tackle, but I think Lewandowski could have taken it sooner..

as for the tournament in general, i've really enjoyed it so far to be honest. It's been very competitive for the most part.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,220 ✭✭✭cameramonkey

Poland could win this if they go for it.

Hard to pin down what exactly Gotze does for a football team

He scored that winning goal in the WC, I cant think of any other reason hes starting over Gomez

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

No forwards is a huge problem for Germany.

City dying for a cb, oh how funny it is they sold Boateng possibly the best defender in the world

It doesn't make a lot of sense...I think Gotze is a fine player, but not in this role. He just seems lost up there.

Despite Ozils chance just now, Poland look decent enough as we should already appreciate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Löw needs to pull the finger out here and make sure he grabs this game by the balls, otherwise Poland may be in with a real sniff of a chance.

Germany just not at it at all today. Don't look like a team.

Where's the electric pace and passing this team provided when they were all 20 or 21 at the world cup 6 years ago?

Group stages with 24 teams is a bit of a joke. Nobody gives a ****e once they win a game.

Germany have no real wingers and yet play 2 full backs who aren't great going forward and they don't have a proper striker.

It doesn't sound to me to be a recipe for success as it makes them very predictable and easier to defend against.Still they have huge talent so perhaps that is enough to get by on.

I'm surprised that this game has been the first 0-0 result.

Expected a bit more from both sides.

Most disappointing game of tournament so far.

Shaking hands with Joachim Löw after the game? Brave man.

No doubt Off The Ball will fill us in with the CrotchWatch statistics tomorrow night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,025 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Germany got away with it really, by miles the 2 easiest chances went to Poland.

In fairness at the time not many questioned it. He wanted to go. Was desperate to win his place in the German national team, was being played out of position when he did get a chance.

    Snooze fest, so disappointed.

2 fairly unconvincing displays from Germany, don't see them winning it.

Germany's second game syndrome... In the last 10 tournaments they have only managed 2 wins in the second group games, with 5 draws and 3 defeats. But they always get it done on the first and third group matches.

He played like 12 games was being kept out of the team by Micah Richards

Bad news for NI. Means Germans need a win to ensure top spot in the group in their last group match. Three points may become the standard required for 3rd place progression, a big loss to the Germans may cost them.

Now that's 90 minutes of my life I'm not going to get back - or as the saying goes... On the upside we didn't concede.

Pretty much what I've been thinking all along, we just don't have it this time round. But you never know, its not like we never have sh1te games in tournaments, there's always been one or two unconvincing ones in there. So I wouldn't rule us out based on what I've seen so far but a fairly big improvement is required, this isn't going to get us to the final.

I'd love to offer a friendly compliment to the Polish team, but they were worse and actually seemed happy with that. Like I said, 90 minutes I'm not...
