Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Difference between Italy and Sweden is that Italy would have brought him down outside the box

    Italy, realstically.

If Sweden draw here, it means that everyone is chasing a win in the last match to scrap it out for the top 2 spots. In other words, Italy will hit us hard.

If Sweden lose, it means Italy have qualified and may go easier on us next Wednesday.

In real terms though, in order to be sure of getting through we basically have to beat Belgium and draw with Italy.

4 points would surely be enough to get to the next round? Probably even 3 would do, but we'd be playing either Spain or France most likely then.

That's a really nice goal! Great control, great run and a smashing finish.

    Lavely finish!

Italy have been incredibly cynical so far in this tournament, they are just a Jose Mourinho away from global outcry

Exceptional knock-on header to allow the Italian to finish the chance.

A Lot of late goals in this tournament

A Lot of late goals in this tournament

    10th after 87 minutes now.

Italian defenders are masters at their craft.

Chiellini desperate to get a yellow card :pac:

Sweden have still only got two efforts on target all tournament. Both from Ciaran Clark, whose absence has been sorely felt today.

Sweden are awful, not a single shot on target in 2 games, surely that is some sort of record.

    DDT to Eder there.....

Hope conte rests them on wednesday

Conte got lucky there. If you're chasing a win, you bring on Insigne or El Sharawaay. Really poor subs, although Zaza held it up well after the goal.

Anyone still keen to give Ibrahimovic £250,000 a week I wonder.

Goal game from a foul throw-in by Chiellini but these are never called.

Got to love the Italians. Beautiful, cynical bastards.

I wouldn't be overly worried about Italy on Wednesday tbh. A lapse in concentration killed Sweden.

We are 2nd in the table.... which just looks great

Ireland's lapses in concentration usually last 90 minutes though! :o

So if someone could go ahead and describe the permutations for us to get through, that'd be great.

    Beat Belgium

draw will still make us 2nd but not guaranteed for next round, a win tomorrow + draw on the final game will surely get us through.

Would 4 points not almost guarantee we get through?

Or draw against both Italy and Belgium would give us a good chance.

    Or beat Italy.

Or beat both of course! :pac:

Not only that, but given GD, we would be strong favourites for runners-up with a win tomorrow. That said, three draws could also do, depending on other groups.

it could be as well but only 4 out of the 6 3rd place team in the group could go through, rather be on that 2nd place than 3rd just to be sure

My RTE player is going wonky. It keeps switching to some cartoon.

Wag: "Dunphy is a fooking cartoon."

Wonder will we really go for it tomorrow now that qualification is fairly tantalisingly close…

There are so many permutations now it's great fun to think about.

We could conceivably get second place on two points! That would be some craic.

Not really because vs the other 3rd........Oh, wait.....we'd be second! Yeah, sign me up for that, then. Sorry, was just so hung up on the 3rd place permutations for a minute there.

#Conte: "We have to stay calm and recover from the game. Other players will have earned a start against #Ireland."

A win or a draw tomorrow guarantees 3rd place but 2 points probably wouldn't see us through. 2 draws would probably be enough though and with Italy guaranteed top if we don't win tomorrow it could be a nice stalemate game to finish the group. And if all the remaining games draw we go through in second on 3 points.

How does a draw tomorrow guarantee 3rd place?

That said, I'd probably take a draw tomorrow and give us a fighting chance in the last game against and already qualified italian side

I saw Italians on Twitter reminding the Swedes of the time in Euro 2004 when Sweden and Denmark played out a 2-2 draw that saw Italy knocked out.

Might be worth reminding the Italians of this before we play them. ;)

It gives us a good chance, but if both we and Sweden beat Belguim and we lose to Italy, there's a chance that we can lose out.
