Word Document that will not delete - how to force delete?

I have three corrupted Word document icons on my desktop that I cannot delete ("The file cannot be found" etc.)

Word is working fine and other Word documents open and close fine.

How can I force the deletion of these document icons?

Actually, they had disappeared after a reboot. Maybe that's the same as a refresh?
