    The Coo.

The Coo, Davincys, Neros (although I can't remember its 80s name) and Leutrecs when it was where the casino is now. Also to a lesser extent Checkers in the Club House hotel (actually that was my one of favorite, it didn't take many to fill it)

The Carlton Ballroom had nights too but had petered out by the late 80s. Hotel Kilkenny had a popular nightclub in the late 80s, early 90s, can't remember the name that either. Got to go take my alzhemier's medicine now.

    Oh the memories..
Rosie O Grady or Rosies in springhill even before Da Vinci's.The cellar niteclub in Hotel kilkenny was it's name.
The rugby club was a popular spot on a saturday night.
God I'm getting on thinking back to these..:)

I forgot DaVincis had been called Rosies before, remember getting a meal ticket?
Never really liked the Cellar, the music seemed too poppy.

Rugby club was probably the best even though it was once a month, where else would you get Stone roses played!

Remember Mikes Bar in The Arcade? That's where I started drinking.....£1.40 for a pint of ale and £1.97 for 20 Carrolls.....that was 1989. We used to go to the ballroom in The Club House afterwards, our very capable Mayor *snigger* was a bouncer there then (Joe Malone).

Hendersons on the Parade was always packed too on a Saturday night (mostly underage!) :)

In later years I used to drink in McNamaras, now Biddy Earlys, before either of those it was The Arch Tavern.

The Kilford, PV's, Peigs was a good spot with the Monday and Wednesday Clubs....Langtons used be jam packed on a Tuesday night back then.

Maggies when downstairs got done up was a great spot around 1992/93/94.....memories.

Yeah, langtons on a tuesday night was great!

I remember drinking in the pumphouse when it was called the Shamrock, it had a great jukebox.

Saw some great gigs in hendersons, starkadder! Then the Newpark Inn became the place for live gigs.

i find it hard to believe that hendersons in the past was a good place to be from the stories i heard stories of the place. i went in last summer for a drink and it so quiet and old fashioned.

NewPark also had late bar /music on Sunday nights, I Don't know if it had a name, I think it was just called The Newpark.

Is the Carlton still there, whats the space being used for?

Before the Celler, there was another nightclub downstairs at Rose Hill, as it was called before it became Hotel Kilkenny. Can never remember the name of it though :(

They also had some super gigs upstairs too. Thin Lizzy played I think & New Order played there too. Just two that I remember.

The Carlton, ahhh the memories :)

Hendersons was a rockin' spot in the mid to late 80's to the early 90's. Just about every Saturday night & some Friday's too there was a live band.

Belsonic Sound, Burning Embers, Black Velvet Band, At Gunpoint, Rex and Dino, Jenkin's Ear, along with many local bands, My Little Funhouse, Kiss the President, Kerb Dog, Pylon Highwires, are just some that spring to mind. Then on Sunday nights there was usually a DJ.

Great, great spot, many fond memories of super times at Hendersons :):)

Along with the Rugby Club disco, which was mighty, the Golf Club & Tennis Club also ran discos.

They were the best of times & I miss them dearly :(

    Just jumping back in..........

The Carmel, or otherwise known as "Flannery's Hotel" was another good spot at times for live music.

Got a beaming smile when I came across this thread :)

I have to say, DaVinci's simply cannot be beaten. It enters my head sometimes nowadays and I still can't believe a place like this existed. For a start I was far too young to be in there at the time, but just strolled in.

The fiver charge (which included a voucher for a chicken curry & rice haha) was always something I felt cheated on, in the few occasions where I paid full whack. Me and my mates bribing a particular bouncer for 2 pound each for a sneaky entry was a regular thing. If he was not working, then it was a case of getting one of your mates to open the firedoor near the dance floor where we would be waiting round back of the hotel.

When that was rumbled, we bought rolls of all 5 colours of the same tickets they used (they changed the colours up every week and then the cycle began again) in Porter's newsagents on High St. and used them for well over a year. Yes, it was that easy! So the crooked bouncer was no longer useful to us. Only ever ordered one pint at the bar at the start of the night, and then used that glass for the cans of Budweiser I had smuggled in with me. Think a lot of people were at the same craic.

The music was dire (give it up for D.J. Michael Byrne on Saturday night at DaVinci's!!), but who cared? You always seemed to get a girl and have a great laugh with people. Honourable mention for the tacky decor in the club such as the funky looking wallpaper and the red lights on every step. The welcoming picture of the Mona Lisa in the hall as you come in, always gave me the feeling it's going to be another good night.

To top the night off, you find yourself jumping into the opened back boot of a bus pulling away, where other random people are stuffed in there to avoid the 1 pound fare, and it hurtles down the Waterford Road into town. Before you think 'what a tight ass'! I was 15 and in school. I wouldn't have changed a thing. Would love to see photo's of the place in full swing but that's hardly going to happen. Hope some people have just as fond memories of the place as me. Great times! :D

Does anyone remember Autograph playing in the Hotel Kilkenny bar on a Sunday morning? Great session and then it would carry on down town.

Or the sessions in Andys Tavern on a Bank Holiday Monday with Marble City Sounds playing......

I started drinking in the Arch Bar. Wasn't The Coo called Bentleys for a while as well? When it was the Coo, there was a wooden arch over the lane way into it with "Itchycoo Park" in neon lights on it.

Anyone else go to the No-Name Club????

Was it Big Snack? That was the first McDonald's style chipper in Kilkenny. There was the Aurora across the road too.

What was the name of the nightclub/late bar that was downstairs on Parliament St? They only served cider and wine cause they didnt have a full license.

It was where the casino is now, it was the zoo but I forget what it was called before that.

    The Flagstone?

I remember I just called it Leutrecs for long after Leutrecs had moved elsewhere.

Remember the chipper down in Irish town, where the petrol station is now. I remember it being called "Paddy's Chipper" I can still taste the late night Sausage, Beans & Chips :D

Or Mike Breen (RIP:() in the conservatory on a Sunday afternoon. Those afternoons often continued down to Kytlers or Maggies on Sunday evening, finishing off in the "Coo" very late Sunday night / early Monday morning

As I said upthread, "Those were the days and I miss them dearly" :(

Yeah. It was run by Paddy Cummins. IMO they were the nicest chips in town.

    Sounds familiar.

So Caruso's, DiVinci's and Nero's, a veritable Italian themed nightclub triumvirate.

Correct, The Coo was called Bentleys before it became Club Life. I was usually to be found at the bottle bar. When you walked in there was the box office, then the cloakroom. As you walked in the main bar was on your right, the bottle bar (me) was on the left. I was a barman in Peigs for a while too, did the bottle bar and the residents bar in PVs too. Great but hazy memories. :)

    I just found this;

I still cant believe I missed it.

Does anyone have any Belsonic Sound recordings. Saw them in Hendersons I think and also down in Cork

    Super find there granturismo :cool::cool:

April 24th 1983 - WOW, a lifetime ago, but can still remember it well :(

I don't have any Belsonic Sound recordings, I do have some Burning Embers though.

    Edit to add......

Just did a bit of Googling based on granturismo's find & saw reference in the comments section of an article on the Journal, to Rory Gallagher gig in the Rose Hill n 1984 !!

Can't say I have any recollection of that ??
