Am I right in saying that if Dundalk win this round they're guaranteed at least another four games in Europe? And winning another tie would guarantee them at least a Europa League group stage spot? If so, it's a great opportunity considering the draw they got.

Yeah. Spot on. They're also guanteed a minimum of €1.2m in prize money if they beat the Icelandic team - which is huge in LoI terms. And win another tie and they're guanteed millions more for getting into the group stages.

Best opportunity for this to happen since 2011. Hopefully Dundalk can thread the same path Rovers did.

That's a really cool location for a football pitch right under The Rock of Gibraltar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,370 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

I don't understand why they have astro turf. It's Gibraltar ffs.

Possibly because the place is small and a lot of teams have to use it? They should still have a proper grass pitch for the main teams and separate ones for the pub leagues.

Was one ground for the entire league up until recently, maybe still is. Same ground is being replaced since they were granted Uefa Status.

Celtic look like a a team who've never played together before. The pitch isn't helping but this is shockingly poor stuff from them.

This would surely be the worst result in Celtic's history? THe guy who scored is a policeman I think, or a postman. Not sure which of the brothers it is that scored.

I regret having so much faith in Celtic. I only bet on 1-1 :(

People defending Rodgers talking about a lack of investment and blaming one player..come on. They lost to a team of public servants. They should be hammering them.

    96 Mins gone.

    Lincoln Red Imps 1
    Celtic 0

Any League of Ireland side, Premier or First Division, would have don't better than Celtic tonight. Rodger's would want to demand a big cheque book in a hurry.

Really need defenders that can defend unlike ambrose. We'll win the tie overall but a big job for Rodgers to get to the group stage

I think Dundalk would beat Lincoln. Very strange Roberts was left on the bench. Griffiths who scored 40 goals last season playing out wide. Really bizarre decisions from Rodgers.

If only Dundalk had managed to draw them. Came so close to it as well. :(

Would have been a serious result for the league if Dundalk had played that team Celtic fielded.

They wouldn't have just beaten then, they would have beaten them 4 or 5-0.

Celtic deserve that result, they've been stagnating ever since Rangers left the league. Rodgers has some job on his hands.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,299 ✭✭✭✭The Backwards Man

The standard in Gibraltar seems to be a lot higher than you would imagine in fairness. Their clubs have beaten teams from Armenia and Estonia in Europe in their three seasons, and run clubs from the likes of the Danish and the Swiss leagues close as well.

They'll do well to get to the group stage of the Europa League never mind the Champions League.

40-1 for Lincoln to win and Rodgers denies it's an embarrassment.

Betway were offering 33s when I bet on 1-1 this afternoon. Bet365 were only offering 22s.

Some sites might have been offering 40/1 but only after the teams were announced.
