I didn't think there was much contact in the replay I saw but I could well be wrong. Seemed like an exaggerated fall regardless of the level of contact

Yeah but a lot of players would have tried to get the other guy sent off by throwing himself to the ground there. He didn't and nothing was made of it.

Actually, they showed a replay just now from a different angle and Cavani did catch him at the bottom of the cheek. So it was understandable that he was holding his cheek.
