Porto V Roma and Villareal V Monaco are two crackers.

Porto-Roma would be a game that you wouldn't be too surprised to see as a Quarter Final game! Certainly a last 16 one anyways.

Confirmed that Dundalk will play their game on Wednesday 17th August.

    Ajax - Rostov.

Rostov probably wouldnt exist anymore if it wasnt for Ivan Savvidis, who has been dumping a few million in that club in the last 18 months.
Nothing too special if it wasnt for the fact that he owns PAOK Saloniki who were Ajax' opponents in the previous round.

Roma's CL tie against Porto is huge for them. If they lose I could see Manolas being sold. Also Juventus will receive increased CL prize money too.

Bale with no goals in the Champions League last season is chosen in Uefa's top 3 players ahead of Suarez and Messi.....make of that what you will.

Seems a bit of an odd selection allright ,they must be using the Euro 2016 performances as a huge factor in voting.
Suarez had a much better season than Bale ,that's for sure .
Suarez is arguably the best striker in the world over the last year and a half.

How in gods name did Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller get into the top 10 ?

That's Aguero of penalty taking duty. Absolutely no bottle.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,754 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Aguero after missing two penalties for City.

0-1 up from a Silva goal set up by Sterling.

'Sterling runs into...', a common refrain.

City should be 5 or 6 nil up by now. Very wasteful.

    That City goal was delish.

No it was a poor touch, good finish though.

Excellent again from Sterling in the build up

He is going to have a great season

That pass from De Bruyne into Nolito was insane.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

Nolito carrying his good form from the euros into the new season.

Nolito/De Bruyne/Aguero is going to kill teams this season.

Gundogan's fitness could make or break their season.

tbh there's teams in bushy park on a sunday would have given them more to think about than they've had tonight.

He could play 11 fans from the crowd next week and Steaua wouldn't get close.

Misses two penalties, still scores a hat trick. Aguero is amazing.

I'm pleased with Monaco's result. They have some exciting players and I'd like to see them make the Champions League. I want to see Porto advance for the same reason but Roma look favourites now in that one.

Ajax look in trouble I see.

How so? They'll win the second leg quite comfortably imo

Have you seen them play recently?

Rostov can play their favourite game. 0-0 is enough for them.
Add to that that Ajax has kept 1 clean sheet since Bosz took over, i na friendly against Beziers, and they are indeed in all kind of trouble.

Would be a disaster for Dutch club football if they fail, real danger of not having 1 single cl spot.
They had a lucky draw, not very easy but could have been a lot worse.

I have seen them recently, and they are indeed a bit weak, but I'd still expect them to get through. By no means in all kind of trouble

    Roma vs Porto teams:

Roma: Szczesny - Bruno Peres, Manolas, Juan Jesus, Paredes - De Rossi, Nainggolan, Strootman - Salah, Dzeko, Perotti

Porto: Casillas - Maxi, Felipe, Marcano, Alex Telles - Danilo, André Andrè - Jesús Corona, Héctor Herrera, Otávio - André Silva

Hope Porto do the business. Andre Silva is on fire in Portugal and Otavio has been doing well too. You'd fancy Roma to be favourites though.

Update: 1-0 Porto. Felipe heads in a great cross from Otavio.

One eye on the Dundalk match and another on the Monaco Villarreal match.

Monaco look the better side so far, very well organised as they have been since Jardim took over. I was expecting a bit more from Villarreal, tbf, they seem to be pushing very hard but no end product.

    Goal for Dundalk. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

De Rossi sent off for Roma!

Going to have to come back from a goal down with 10 men.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Roma down to 9 men now!

The sub Palmieri off. Disgraceful tackles for both reds and right call by the ref on both counts.

    Brendan's under pressure

Great play from Dundalk there, thought they were going to get the equaliser.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,977 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Legia player gets a red card, down to ten men. Go on Dundalk and get the win now.

Shooting both their feet up against an ordinary enough Porto side. Not surprised with De Rossi tho.

Yeah, 3 red cards for them over the 2 games. Madness.

2-0 to Porto. Miguel Layun scores after Szczesny stupidly comes miles out of his box only for Layun to run past him and pass it into the empty net.

And Jesus Corona has just made it 3-0!

Job done. Very happy to see Porto and their exciting youngsters make the Champions League. Going to switch over now and see how Celtic get on.

    Penalty for Monaco.

Terrible decision, hit Musachio's neck. Similar situation to Legia's pen last week but this one didn't even hit Musachio's arm, it was his neck.

    And Monaco have scored.

What is this about? I read his comment and I'm tending to agree that Celtic will get hammered by the better teams. They just scraped through against poor opposition.

    What is bitter about that?
