Any suggestions for a Car with a raised seating position for around €28-30k, needs to be automatic also. I can think of a few but not in that price range.

(Grand) C4 Picasso, 3008, 5008, C-Max, Yeti, Qashqai. There is also Honda HR-V - but only theoretically...

From the cheaper ones, you'll have B-Max, ix20 and Venga.

Checkout Note and Juke as well, but they might not be that tall...

Renault Captur, Skoda Yeti, Opel Meriva, Opel Mokka. A lovely underrated car the Mokka. Fiat 500X, VW Golf SV. Dacia Sandera Stepway and Duster are two more and are relatively new here but simple good cars.

Yep. There is (Grand) Scenic in this price range as well.

Mokka is interesting alright - it is an old fashioned, solid Astra in disguise. So if someone is looking for uncomplicated motoring, it might be a great option.

What's the auto box like in the 500x. Would also have concerns about depreciation but it looks like a nice car.

There are two actually. Dual Clutch (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FPT_C635_DDCT_transmission or C625 DDCT) with MultiAir II 140, and Torque Converter based 9-speed box (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_9HP_transmission) with 4x4 drive, paired with MulitAir II 190 and MultiJet 140 engines.

Both gearboxes seem nice... I've just discovered that I got a rental Dodge Dart with the D635 DDCT last year and it was excellent...

Actually your wrong it is based on the platform of the Corsa C

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Gamma_platform

As you said there is nothing wrong with that platform its a good solid reliable platform and is still being used to today because it has been shown to be a good platform for a car to be based on.
The average person buying a car ain,t going to care that much about what is underneath their car as long as it drives nice has a decent bit of kit and a nice interior. A car for most people is a way of getting from A to B and back.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Qashqai looks almost perfect. But it would have to be the 1.2 petrol to keep on budget. Seems very small for the size of car?

It's turbo-charged. Much nicer than 1.6 petrol from the Tucson.

You should get a petrol Skoda Yeti Elegance DSG for around 30kish. Diesel version is a fair chunk extra.

Really liking the Qashqai but it's on the upper end of budget . At first glance found the Dacia Duster interesting but they don't come in automatic.
