Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Portugal vs Austria

    8:00pm Saturday 18th June
    Parc des Princes

    Teams:

Portugal: Rui Patricio, Vieirinha, Pepe, Carvalho, Guerreiro, Quaresma, William Carvalho, Joao Moutinho, Andre Gomes, Nani, Ronaldo.

Austria: Almer, Klein, Prodl, Hinteregger, Fuchs, Harnik, Ilsanker, Baumgartlinger, Arnautovic, Alaba, Sabitzer.

Potentially a cracking game on the cards here as Portugal, who started off with a draw against Iceland, take on an Austrian side that were deservedly beaten by Hungary.

Can Ronaldo show what he can do? Will Alaba step up? Who wins?

I'm going for Portugal to take it 2-1.

    Sanchez should be starting.

Lovely bit of skill from Nani. Unlucky not to score.
    Nice tempo to the game.

    Shocking miss from Ronaldo.

Should go with the left foot, Portugal on top.

    Ron foot...

Vierinha could be crossing for the next month and still wont beat the defender, he gets into great positions and then ****s up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

    Austria keeper is fairly dodgy.

    Martin Keown needs to evolve.

Nani more of a threat than Ronaldo in the first half hour.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

Does Quaresma think he's in a gang, brainless.

Ronaldo and his shot taking is too predictable. He's allowing the defenders to make savage looking blocks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,200 ✭✭✭superfurry1

    Alaba having a nightmare again

I thought he looked like more of a threat in the first game too!

Ronaldo doesn't look sharp. Maybe a yard off the pace.

Portugal bossing this like the Iceland game but they need to find their shooting boots.

Our World Cup qualifying group with Austria and Wales is looking a bit like Northern Ireland's for Euro 2016 (mediocre)

We are bang average ourselves but there is no reason why we can't top it!!

I reckon it's the kid from the Nike Switch advert that's still in Ronaldo's body.

    Pepe lacks morals.

Lovely shot from Alaba and excellent defending by Vieirinha

This has been enjoyable despite the 0-0 scoreline.

Portugal kill themselfs going to Ronaldo everytime, he doesnt want the ball what do they do, pass it to him anyways

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

What Portugal would give for even a player like Nuno Gomes.

Ronaldo looks injured. He's not moving anywhere near as quickly as he normally does, he's staying much higher up the pitch and not closing anyone down.

Despite that, he still looks to be their biggest threat, which doesn't say a lot for Portugal.

Ronaldo is your typical flat-track bully.
He can do it against mediocre league teams, but underperforms on the big stage.

Alaba has been shocking in this tournament so far. His passing has been so bad must have misplaced around 75% of his passes.

Barcelona are a mediocre league team?

Because the Austrian defence is the pinnacle of football

Austrian keeper is desperate....reckon Portugal just need to just get stuff on target and Austria will be in all kinds of trouble.

This game could end anywhere between 0-0 and 4-0.

Best player on the pitch is William Carvalho (so far).

Portugal are terrible at set pieces. If they were even average this game would be long over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    He's getting closer, Ronaldo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,248 ✭✭✭✭BoJack Horseman

Ronaldo's neck muscles must be off the scale.

    Austria being overrun now.

Strange stat there by the BBC. 'Ronaldo has had more shots at Euro 2016 than Northern Ireland.'

amazing that this is sill 0-0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Quaresma's been crap. Get him off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,673 ✭✭✭AllGunsBlazing

Portugal always seem to look laboured at these tournaments. Like they're all dragging an invisible ball and chain.

At least they can say they scored a couple

Yes Quaresma off. Hopefully some crosses will find Portugal players now.
