Fair play to them. The monopoly on the league will continue for years to come unfortunately but fair play nonetheless.

It'll be funny if the SDCC tell Shams they have to move a 'home' game elsewhere because of a Dundalk EL game.

I can't image them playing a home game in Dalymound, or Richmond Park, or the RDS, or Tolka, or Santry....

Best result ever for loi team, unbelievable

Fantastic result and fully deserved. 3-0 is an absolutely outstanding score, but even more so the performance imo. The fitness and quality of the second half is a superb progression of LOI teams in europe and in general.

Brilliant result and hope we can do the same on Thursday night.

Highest rankings teams they can face in the champions section include Celtic, Olympiakos, Legia Warsaw, Vicky Plezen, Red Bull Salzburg. (Not a complete list)

They can draw Celtic but not the rest. Only winners from other nations leagues

Dundalk could be about to get very rich indeed!

That said remember what happened to Shels, on the cusp of something monumental and within a few years disaster.

There wont be a drop of Diesel washed tonight in Dundalk.

    Man city are in it.

Play-off draw is split up into Champions and Non-Champions. Champions can only draw Champions so Dundalk can't draw against City.

Viktoria Plzen and APOEL are two of the sides Dundalk can get.

Dundalk have earned at minimum 4 times what Shams got.

In all fairness, from 2011-2013 you'd be hard pushed to find someone who thought he'd lead the line for the champions of Ireland at any point in his career.
Well he was in Australia until mid 2012. When he came back to UCD he got 1 in 2 that season. The following season he was getting 2 in 3. And this was in a team near the bottom. I honestly would have been surprised had he not made it at a top LOI team.

Congrats dundalk.. never looked in doubt.. what a team spirit and hats off to Kenny he has done some job in 3 odd years there.. only about 6-9 months BATE got a 0-0 draw with Roma in group stages.. fair play credit to the country

They beat Roma in the CL last year. 4 points from the 2 games against them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

Other than Olympiakos, I don't think there's a side who are as good as what they just beat. This is the best chance an Irish club has ever had.

    Olympiacos 70.940 Q
    Viktoria Plzeň 44.585 Q
    Red Bull Salzburg 42.520
    Celtic 40.460
    APOEL 35.935 Q
    Legia Warsaw 28.000
    Dinamo Zagreb 25.775 Q

Assuming Celtic and Salzburg qualify it'll be one of the top 5 for Dundalk in the next round.

I'm guessing that this win will do no harm to the LOI's coefficient either. Could this open up another place for a LOI team next season?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,752 ✭✭✭pablomakaveli

In one way this is great for the league as it'll prove a lot of the doubters wrong but on the other hand if Dundalk use the money wisely it could be the death knell of a competitive league. As it stands theres a widening gulf between Dundalk, ourselves and the rest of the league.

I know people say it didnt happen with Shams but Dundalk will get a lot more money than they did.

That's a good way off I believe. Best to hope for at the moment is better seedings.

Think we will see a dominance for years now with dundalk in the league on a back of this.. pretty sure they won't make same mistakes other have done before

That was as professional performance as you are likely to see from a look team.

Suitable for Dundalk to be wearing their black gear because for heart, determination, passion, fitness and belief, they had it in spades!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,421 ✭✭✭major bill

Wouldnt be fearing most of them Teams to be honest, as mentioned this Bate team would beat a lot of those teams, I think Apoel could be the one to draw, werent the best against TNS and just about came through against Rosenborg tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,527 ✭✭✭Paz-CCFC

The said that about Shamrock Rovers when they got to the EL group stages.

Rovers got €1.7M that year. Dundalk are guaranteed €6.4M. Four times the prize money. Granted, there'll be extra costs for renting a stadium (they might have to use Lansdowne - Tallaght, as it is, might not good enough for the playoffs or the group stages), travel costs for at least four more trips, player bonuses. But there'll also be gates and sponsorship (TV money is centralised and included in the EL prize money - for the CL group stages, you get a bonus). If they win the playoffs, they'll be getting €14M. And the scary thing is, they could actually do it. BATE were one of the highest seeded teams. They'll be playing a team with a similar European pedigree. If they can beat BATE, they can beat any of the teams left.

I think every away travelling fan in Ireland hope this money goes to updating that away end in Oriel :D

What LOI team do you support?

Wexford were never going to compete with Dundalk for anything anyway. Anything that makes our league look a bit less shit, I'm happy with. Also, being a fan of Irish football in general, this a fantastic achievement.

Well done Dundalk, thrilled for ye!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭edgecutter

If you said to me that Dundalk would go through never mind win 3-0, i would have said your off your rocker. This is a great result and it should be celebrated. It shows Irish teams to not sit back and have a go at home. Hopefully Cork have a good go on Thursday night and bring more success.
