Martin O'Neill wishes his team could play his preferred backs to the wall style as successfully as Dundalk did there at the end.

Well done Dundalk, deserved at least a draw.

Dundalk probably earned more in that one game than they did for winning the league last season.

Well done to them for coming back with 10 men away from home. Very good result for any team.

Point away to the top seeds, incredible!

So can someone explain the whole coefficient points thingy again? Do Dundalk get points towards their ranking for every draw/win they get in the group stages?
Congrats Dundalk. AZ finished 4 points behind Feyenoord last season and they beat Man Utd (well done as well inforfun :D )

If I am remembering correctly from Football Manager. A draw in the EL is actually worth more than winning the league here?

€120k for a draw. €100k for winning the league.

Brilliant result for Dundalk. Really under pressure but hung in there .

They get €120k for the draw according to newstalk, so yeah.

(Or a couple of months salary for JD)

Yep, and a guaranteed 2.4m for just being there.
Winning a game is about €360k.

They also got a nice sum for the qualifiers I believe.

Fair playto Dundalk. A draw away from home is a great result. More importantly shows they can be competitive in the group stages instead of just making up the numbers.

Horgan deserves a call up for one of the friendlies for Ireland. O'Donnell was excellent & will be a loss for the Maccabi game. Dundalk are the best LOI team I have seen.

But seriously, how does Rogers get in to the Ireland squad. Seen quite a bit of him this season and don't rate him

They were fantastic on the ball tonight.

The extra fixtures don't seem to hinder their fitness levels. I thought they were sluggish against Legia in the first leg but tonight full of energy.

These games will give them great experience and SK will know where to improve.

Remarkable result. Congratulations to everyone involved with the club.

As a Shels fan I know all too well of where Dundalk were a few years ago. They were stuck in division 1 for nearly a decade, went up from with a last ditch goal from Limerick whilst their players were on the pitch in Kildare commiserating each other, barely stayed up in the premier division, brought in Stephen Kenny and kablam. They picked up players that nobody was interested in and sky rocketed up the table. There was no big money and a moderate fanbase.

Like Leicester, there is no explanation for how they did it. Just good management, clever signings and a great attitude. It could have been any club that have achieved what they have. Dundalk were the club that got it right.

If that Colin Scanlon goal didnt go in against Shelbourne, they could have still been stuck in Division 1 and on the brink.

It's wasn't that bad about 5 years back, full pot was 900k opposed to about 300k now. But the FAI cut it to ribbons and Delaney had to be shamed into taking a token gesture pay cut.

Fair play to Dundalk marvelous result.

I think its only gone up this year because of the money coming from the streaming site.
This run of games is fantastic for Dundalk but also brings lots of attention to the LoI which cant be a bad thing.

    Exactly.
The worst thing is Bwin had been covering the NIFL for a few years so it was inevitable that they'd offer a deal to the LOI. The FAI had nothing to do with getting the deal yet a well worded press release later and everyone thinks they've single handedly saved the league.

I think the FAI deserve a lot of credit for creating the atmosphere that helped Dundalk get a result tonight :pac:

Then they deduct your affiliation fee and fines (yellow/red cards, flares, no bog roll in the refs dressing room etc) then they make you wait months before you get the net due to you

It has done nothing for attendances though which could be at an all time low nearly. Dundalk could only get 2000 vs Finn Harps & there crowds have dropped this season by nearly 1000. Overall the standard of the LOI has improved this season imo.

To be honest, it's likely the fact that the 3rd choice keeper is the least likely player in the squad to be used and thus makes for an easy token gesture.

Yeah, but Dundalk fans are being a little choosy. They have had a lot of high profile home and away European games to go to. Great crowd of Dundalk fans travelled tonight.
11 men behind the ball Finn harps game probably was an easy one to miss to be fair and they don't have a huge fan base to begin with.

But, he's not even the best keeper in the LOI. I'm surprised he has the No.1 shirt at Dundalk.

    Eredivise Club 1 v 1 Dundalk
    Eredivise Club 1 v 0 Man United

    Dundalk > Manchester United

Whatever your views on LOI Dundalk were good tonight. As for 2,000 at the Finn Harps match on a sh*te Monday night, who else would have gotten that figure? It has to be said that the football ( or in this case the non football) played by FH would drive most supporters of the league to check Ryanair for cheap flights to anywhere to watch football. Maybe the premier division is too big at 12 teams

Outstanding performance by Dundalk, they have done their Club, Town, County, Country and the League of Ireland proud. They have to win Team of the Year this year. Tickets for the three games against Zenit, AZ and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Tallaght are going to be hard to come by.

If dundalk keep it this level of performance in the rest of their campaign I can see a number of european sides looking at their players. Id imagine a number of scouts in Europe and Britain are looking at their players given the fact they could be picked up for a small fee

    Bit out of date

The latest filed accounts for Dundalk Town FC Ltd show accumulated profits of €26,323 at the end of November 2014, and shareholders’ funds of a similar amount.

It was recently revealed that while Dundalk won €100,000 for landing their first Premier Division title in 19 years last year, they only received €66,000 of this from the FAI, who deducted the club’s annual registration fee and fines from it.

So yeah, the €120,000 for the draw tonight is worth more than the 33 match LOI champions receive

I think Cork would have. But Dundalk's crowds before the European run have dropped since last season. Not sure why either. I'm not knocking the hardcore Dundalk fans who make most/every games & last Monday was miserable. It is a small town just suprised crowds dropped this year from a 3k average to nearly a 2k average.
Some discussion on the Dundalk forum about it too

Attendances are down no doubt. Possibly a number of factors -. CC once at home, Derry once at home, Pats once at home, Sligo once at home, no Drogheda , no Rovers, no Bohs matches at home this year (yet) no away fans at most matches, Euro 16, 4 postponed home matches, European matches all over the place (Oriel, Tallaght and Aviva) and now with the prospect of two matches every week.........

But no excuses, this team deserve better attendances than they are getting.

I watched the Europa League highlights tonight on ITV and they seemed surprised that Dundalk played 3 matches in 7 days, even remarked about playing on Monday against Finn Harps. Glenn Hoddle got it right though, Spurs did play a 1 -1 draw against Dundalk in the 80's, good memory. (lost 0 -1 at White Hart Lane, that was a good Dundalk team too)

You look at teams around Europe even small clubs often have Brazilians & other overseas players. Nearly all of Dundalk's squad is Irish & there first 11 is all Irish. It is a great achievement.
