Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Thought Finn would shoot

Horgan has every right to be annoyed at himself there. Should have been getting more purchase on that shot

Dundalk getting some half chances, but not testing the keeper.

Looking good, really knocking on the door.

Maccabi pretty poor it has to be said. Everything through the middle and it's just not working, allowing Dundalk to counter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 704 ✭✭✭frisbeeface

Good opportunity to create a really clear chance there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Hope they don't rue these missed chances. Plenty of encouragement to be had from that half nonetheless.

Dundalk looking the better team, but showing no composure in front of goal.

Dundalk playing great until the shot. Maccabi have done their research on Horgan, doubling up on him but he's doing well.

That really is what's letting them down. Horgan for Ireland

Dundalk well in this. That looked like a penalty in regular time, did the ref book Benson for diving? They've had the more clear cut chances so far.

As it stands in Group D

    1 Zenit St. Petersburg 6Pts

    2 Dundalk 2Pts

    3 Maccabi Tel Aviv 1Pt

    4 AZ Alkmaar 1Pt

    Gas.

Horgan should be nowhere near the Ireland squad. Hes a very good league of Ireland player and would probably make a decent career elsewhere but he's not any better than the options we have already. McLean is a guaranteed started and he's a far better footballer playing at a far higher level.

Have a look at the Ireland squad there, the full squad, and then have a think about what you just said there.

I disagree. Certainly not far better anyway.

Such bull to be fair. Kevin Kilbane reckons he's surpassing McGeady at the moment(who is in the squad)and is familiar with the standard of the championship. I'd trust his judgment above yours.

I don't know how good Horgan will become, but right now he'd easily be able to play in a decent Championship level team. That kind of form would be good enough to make the Ireland squad at least.

Really good mix of pressing and sitting deep from Dundalk. Maccabi can barely play out of their half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,796 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Dundalk work rate has been outstanding, big test to see can they maintain it.

McMillan is shocking. Hasn't a clue what he's doing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,607 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

Macabbi look a bit lethargic at times. Dundalk may get an opportunity here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,796 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Maccabi just stepping it up here.

Maccabi in control now, way to intricate with the passing though.

Seems to be slowing down a bit. I know there's still 20 minutes left but I think the best they can hope for now is a scoreless draw.

Anyone on the bench with a bit of pace to try open things up a bit?

Kilduff will never have to buy a drink in town again, and Horgan is Damien Duff reincarnated.

Big smile on Martin O'Neill's face anyway. I'd say Horgan is almost certainly in the next squad.

McLean is an important player in an English premier league side. He doesn't look as impressive cause he faces better players. Simple enough really.

Jaysus, Benayoun to save the day? Thought he was retired years ago.

Kilduff should get a call up, will suit negative Martin's approach, ideal kinda player for the last 15 minutes when we need a goal...horgan is a class act

I've seen them both play in person on multiple occasions at the same level as each other. Simple enough really.
