Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes the league has stayed at exactly the same level all those years.

McLean also left the league when he was 22. Morgan's 24 already.

  • What a win

Maccabi team = 473 international caps

Dundalk team = 0 international caps

    Dundalk (0 international caps) 1 v Maccabi (473 international caps) 0

Great performance. Could easily have won by more. Super stuff.

What a result for Dundalk. Their work rate was excellent and their hustling style really took the sting out of Maccabi's game.

Guts of €3M in the bank for Dundalk now. Mad.

Brilliant from Dundalk. Watched this game and the Man United game as best I could. Dundalk game was more exciting for sure.

he is amazing! like an Irish Arjen Robben embodied in the aesthetics of Damien Duff!!

Based on that wouldn't be surprised with a result in Israel. Realistic chance of getting out of the group surely.

And they deserved to win by more.

Best LOI side of all time no question now

Surely it's time to change the thread title to Dundalk in Europe!

Don't know why you're getting all hostile over an opinion but since you are , it's McClean and Horgan.

Absolutely. I thought Dundalk were very comfortable for huge spells in that game. Lots of sideways stuff from Tel Aviv but not much cutting edge. Dundalk can win there for sure.

Great win well done Dundalk. And this wasn't a smash and grab. They deserved this

  • Registered Users Posts: 855 ✭✭✭joshrogan

Fixtures left are great as well, nick a draw against Zenit then on to AZ at home and hopefully Maccabi have nothing to play for in the last game.

They're just going to get better now and the others will follow and maybe overtake them.

Really impressed with Shields and Massey in particular tonight, though everyone played very well. Shields' tackling and passing were brilliant.

Is it Zenit at home or away first?

Think you 'corrected' my opinion first.

Cheers for the spell check. Definitely not something that only dickheads do.

Nick a draw v zenith? Not a chance. Zenith are banging in goals as if they are going out of fashion. Keep within 2 or 3 would be a very good result.

Horgan should be nowhere near the Ireland squad. Hes a very good league of Ireland player and would probably make a decent career elsewhere but he's not any better than the options we have already. McLean is a guaranteed started and he's a far better footballer playing at a far higher level.

You obviously didn't watch the game tonight or last week then.

Didn't correct you whatsoever. You used the 'simple really' line which I refuted by giving an example of how I've seen them both on level playing fields. Then you chimed back in with your sarcastic ''yeah cos the league is the same name now as it was then''. If you have a point make it without that type of carry on, that's the dickhead behavior.

Conceded three against Tel Aviv. Didn't score for 78 mins in that game and Maccabi are very average (on tonights showing) at the back.

Dundalk are hard to break down. Tough side Zenit but no way is it damage limitation stuff.

They won't get a result in russia, but something at home isn't out of the question. It's a pity they didn't play Zenit away first thou and maybe Zenit would be resting players for the rest of the comp at that point. Hope AZ and Maccabi draw next as well. That's probably the best we could hope for.

Anyway, what a bloody performance, probably should have scored another goal at some point, so wonderful to see an irish side play like this. King Kenny could do a job with Ireland, if given time, by the looks of things. Imagine if the NT passed the ball, closed down and kept the ball like Dundalk.

Horgan and maybe 1/2 others will get NT call ups soon, but likely not until the season is over, I reckon Kenny/MON have spoken and would be weary of overworking them or disrupting Dundalk at this moment, they are a special team.

If only they played Legia at Tallaght.

Incredible though, they play at a tempo on par with tier 2 European sides.

Horgan will be in the next Irish squad surely

Zenit are in a different league to the others. Dundalk will do well to get a low scoring defeat

Hopefully Maccabi and AZ take points off each other through two draws. That leaves a massive night in Tallaght against AZ.

That is crazy to think. Hopefully this season is just a flavour of Europe for them and they can manage to maintain their level to be in the Europa annually.

As a Cork City fan I hope Horgan gets a call up. Another distraction in the league and cup run in...

In general, while I am concerned about the huge injection of funds into Dundalk and the possibility of the game here turning into a competition to see who finishes second for trophies...it's hard not to enjoy seeing an Irish side do well in Europe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

Remarkable again. And they didn't just nick the win, they were the better team. No matter what happens for the rest of the competition, they will fancy a shot at Champions League next year. Although the league isn't done and dusted.

    Wow!

Dundalk fans will be insufferable after this but that's a small trade off. Well done.;)

I don't know where he's getting his figures from. The UEFA site says a €2.4M base fee for the entirety of the group and €120k/360k for drawing/winning. It says nothing about per match prize money and €1.3M sounds crazily large compared to the draw/win bonus. I don't see why losing a group match would be worth 80% of winning one, it'd make no sense. His "correction" to €3M is way off.

Still, €360k for a night's work ain't too bad. Dundalk have already made their money, though. Drawing/winning matches now is a fraction of what they made through the CL qualifiers. Each win/draw probably gets them enough money to tie the likes of Horgan down to an extra year, mind.
