Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    How does this team play in the LOI. They're unreal.

    It's a loss, but they've put it up to a huge side far away from home in difficult conditions.

    Game over in Israel. 0-0
    Ideal result for Dundalk.

    You'd have to say Dundalk have largely been architects of their own downfall in the games so far. Mistake at AZ giving the goal away, mistake at home to Zenit giving away the equaliser, mistakes away to Zenit.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭CurryFlavoured

    Unlucky Dundalk.

    Positives - 2 games against the best team of the group out of the way, put it up to them and still in 2nd.
    Negatives - Unfortunately we might see Zenit play a weaker team from here on seeing they've guaranteed 1st.

    Fair play to Dundalk, that is a great performance.

    Their fitness looks really good given the amount of games they have played.

    Horgan could force himself into the Irish team yet. Has the workrate too which would suit the Irish side?

    Dundalk still second in group, all to play for and in their own hands. Have scored in every round, AZ Alkmaar game in Tallaght now huge. Hope Zenit don't lift off the pedal now that they are through.
    Whole country should be so so proud of this Dundalk team, they deserve to play in front of packed Aviva Sunday as do Cork City who knocked out Linfield and Hacken of Sweden out of the Europa League showing their quality.

    So if they beat AZ in 3 weeks time, and Zenith win, they're definitely through. Right?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,607 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

    Another great performance. Zenit hanging on in the end to keep Dundalk out. Can still qualify with the last two games to come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

    That shot off the bar at the end was nail biting stuff. Very unlucky for it not to scrape in off the underside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

    Can't see Horgan staying now I suspect Premier League teams like Sunderland could be looking at him now.
    Great performance from Dundalk but it is to be expected now.
    Az is now huge. I wonder will there be an extra stand for that game? Could be hard to get tickets if there isn't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

    Massive game v AZ the next day. 2 huge performances against a quality side full of internationals, and even more on the bench.
    Hit the post 3 times in the 2 games. The header in Tallaght would have put them 2-0 up and surely would have won that game.
    The shot tonight near the end was inches away from a 2-2 draw. Very unlucky not to have got anything from both Zenit games, which says a lot.

    Great to see Dundalk always try play out from the back, but at times it's overdone and sadly has cost them 3 times in this group. Sometimes it's better every so often just to hoof it forward, even if it goes against what the team believes in.

    No. Tel Aviv could still go through if they beat them in round 6. Dundalk will need a draw in Tel Aviv to go through. Or a narrow score defeat...2-1, 3-2 etc.

    How ranking is determined:
    1. higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question;
    2. superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question;
    3. higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question;
    4. higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question;

    Have to say I honestly thought the wheels would come off tonight due to the crazy schedule and travel, But once again Dundalk come out with a cracking performance to scare the home side, 2 sloppy mistakes (Curse of the Irish sides in europe) undone them, fully deserved by Zenit though. Horgan showed tonight why he is in the Ireland squad on merit, fantastic player that no matter what team he ends up playing with will reach the top.

    Heading along to the cup final on sunday and really looking forward to it now for what should be good game of football.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,468 ✭✭✭White Horse

    Dundalk showed no signs of tiredness. That bodes well for the cup final on Sunday.

    There are areas of the game Dundalk can improve on and that will be the challenge for the remainder of this Europa campaign and in next seasons attempt of the Champions League.

    Nothing to worry about. Apparently its easy to avoid defeat in Tel Aviv!

    Lucescu after tonights game "The best team is Dundalk, I cannot compare them with the others.

    "They can win at home against AZ and it is easy to not lose a match against Maccabi Tel Aviv."
