Mini Cooper strange noise

Hoping someone here with a bit more car knowledge then myself might be able to help me out!

I have been driving the girlfriends Mini Cooper, 2003, 1.6 petrol for the last few days and I've noticed it is making a strange noise, specifically when turning to the right at low speed.

Its a hard noise to describe, maybe squealing/grinding would be the best description. This only happens when turning to the right.

The car is also throwing on the tyre pressure and abs fault lights together, intermittently (maybe once every few days), but they both go away when the tyre pressure rest button is pressed, I'm wondering if this could be connected to it!

The noise sounds to be coming from the engine bay, rather then down at the wheels, so I dont think its a CV joint but maybe a pump of some sort??

I checked the power steering fluid level to rule that out and its fine, anybody have an idea what it could be?

Wheel bearing possibly if it only occurs when car is in motion. If it occurs when wheel is turned with car stopped it would look like power steering issue.

Thanks for the reply Atlantic Dawn, just took the car out for a drive again and now I'm even more confused!

It is definitely the noise which is throwing on the abs and tyre pressure lights (coming on Amber) as they came on immediately after and they reset automatically when the engine is switched off.

The thing is, when the warning lights are on, the noise goes away! Is there some part of the system disabled when those lights come on?

Also, I'm not using the brakes at all when the noise happens so I don't know why ABS light is getting involved!

You should get codes read. Do you have a code reader?

I have one of those cheap eBay Bluetooth ones, I don't know of they work but I can get hold of one or bring it to a garage!

Try the one you have first. Even a cheapo one like ELM327 should give you a code while lights are on.
