Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It'll be a bit odd for whoever finishes third between Romania/Albania, will have to hang around for a couple of days till they know if they can qualify or not.

I've enjoyed Romania vs Albania. Not a great game technically, but very absorbing; and the Albanians have worked their socks off.

Pity Romania can't grab a goal, would be great for Ireland

Ref misses blatant penalty for the Swiss, shock, not

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

France would have got a penalty for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

That's a penalty for Switzerland all day. How's the ref/5th official missing that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,930 ✭✭✭PeterTheEighth

There's been a lot of that behind the back, discrete, jersey pulling. That's the last thing that we need in the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

FFS nearly through on goal and turns away to make a beeline for the corner to run the clock down

I really want a 10 yard anything goes no mans land around the corner flag. Thatll sort that crap out.

Not necessarily, Romania would have superior goal difference to Ireland should Romania and Ireland finish on 2 points. 2 points won't be enough anyway, Ireland will have to beat Italy.

Or even give free kicks for obstructions just like they do everywhere else on the pitch.

France benefiting from dubious refereeing once again. I feel it is now becoming a feature of every international tournament that the home nation have the referees on their side. You almost have to take it into account, this is "home advantage" coming into play.

Referees probably not paid off, maybe scared to call it fairly.

3 points but a goal difference of -2. It'll be a nervy few days for the Albanians but it should get them through ahead of group D and E.

Seriously impressed with them, its a pity that the other two games didnt go their way.

"5th Official" makes a valuable, incisive contribution by telling the goalie to hurry up. That should guarantee their positions for another 4 years.

    credit to Albania.

    but Romania have been terrible.
One of the worst sides of the tournament. . (alongside Turkey & Russia)

But Albania winning means they are 3rd with 3 points ??? Surely worse for Ireland than Romania 3rd with 2 points.

All over. Albania finish with 3 points and third place. A deserved win.

Not sure if it will be enough for them as they might curse the game with the Swiss where Cana was sent off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

If Albania don't get through they can count themselves unlucky, they've performed admirably in all three games and should probably have more than 3 points. Fair play to them, would love to see them get through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,564 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

First win and first goal in euros for Albania and they have a chance of getting through to next round.
This best third place stuff is a bit of a farce.
Obviously Albania are Delighted but only scoring one goal in three games potentially gets you through to next round. Kinda making a mockery of a knock out tournament.

Now require us to win and one of England or Germany to win.

    I think.

I thought they were very good and unlucky against France and were okay against Switzerland too. Certainly poor tonight but I've enjoyed their contribution to the tournament overall despite them picking up just the 1 point.

Makes no difference. Even on 2 points, Romania would have had a superior goal difference. We pretty much have it in stone now, a win against Italy puts us through. Manager and team will have to play in such a way to get that result, however difficult it is likely to be.

But Albania winning means they are 3rd with 3 points ??? Surely worse for Ireland than Romania 3rd with 2 points.

No team is going to go through on 2 points and Ireland can't finish on 3 points so a draw or Albanian win were the offered results for Ireland and both equally as valuable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,793 ✭✭✭Red Kev

If Romania had drawn they would have 2 points a a difference of -1.

If we draw against Italy we would have 2 points and a difference of -3.

So it doesn't matter, to finish above the 3rd place in Group A, we need to beat Italy, which gives us 4 points automatically (W1, D1, L1).

Ya, I was saying this to another poster (that Romania are useless) in a thread after the France match and got awful stick for saying it. Romania are honestly the worst team in the tournament. Going out on a whimper against an equally poor (albeit hearty) Albanian side was bad.

pogba can't control a game ala modric, iniesta, xavi. he is a playstation player.

He's not there to control the game.
He's not there to pass and keep the ball.
He's there to break forward and do something different.

I can't get over the passion of their fans. Win, lose or draw they f'ing love it. They're the best fans in the world in my eyes.

Standard of analysis on Irish TV is at appalling levels. Hunt making the point Swiss player didnt deserve a penalty because someone else didnt get one. And forget the rules he wouldnt have got the ball. Emma Byrne earlier hoping Chile play at the next Euros.

At least when Dunphy goes on one its funny, this is tragic
