It was the Diesel N47 engine, yours is an N46 I think.

    Good to know! Cheers.

You can't deny it though. 700-odd quid for a little 4 pot is madness no matter what way you slice it. It makes people view such engines as "big" and unnecessary.

But they're happy to spend 30k to buy a new Golf 1.6 and get chape tax with severe depreciation

Maybe I'm a bit cynical but I've got my first kinda dodgy offer....someone wanting to buy it for their cousin but will only pay by paypal of bank transfer. They can't talk because they are deaf and can't come to see it because they are in a wheelchair, their courier will come to take it.....

    What do ye think?!!

I think they overpay you, and you send them the 'refund'.

I don't think those engines suffered the timing chain issue.
Had to look it up tbh, seems the N42 petrol engine also had timing chain , ahem, "features". Definitely not bugs. nein nein nein.

Yeah, I remember speaking to Eddie Ronayne (BMW specialist in the west) before I bought mine. He said to listen out for the timing chain rattle in the 318i too.

paypal transaction requires proof of delivery
they will open a dispute and get refunded and your car will be gone

or you will get a fake paypal email saying you have been paid

or for bank transfer they will take all your money and run to lagos

try a few other sites like carsireland and adverts
i had my car listed everywhere for 6 weeks and got nothing at all so i traded it in for 2k below average

No, they don't. They require proof of postage or proof of delivery. Sale of vehicles is excempt from Buyers Protection too...

And you can always request to have the money transferred 'for friends and family'. Such transaction cannot be reversed unless was charged back by the bank. And that is the thing I would be afraid of.

One have to be half-minded to believe an email, not the actual statement on the site...
or for bank transfer they will take all your money and run to lagos

And how is that going to happen?

PayPal require proof of delivery for items over a certain value I think it is €150
Who's paying for a car with PayPal anyway
They can claim the item isn't as described of it breaks down and there is a six month timeframe for that now

Friends and family option can also be reveresed by a charge back on the credit card

The amount people I've had contacting me on done deal and sending spoof emails is unreal
Anyone that's clued up wouldn't fall for it but some do or they wouldn't do it

    As for the bank
Would you trust any Tom dick or paddy with your bank details
    I wouldn't
A car sale is best done with cash or bankers draft in my opinion
