ooter is that a misquote, should it read 2.59.59 rather than 3.59.59?

I wish tang, no it's correct.
The last year or so has been a nightmare with injuries so I'll be delighted if I sneak under 4 hours, not so long ago I could barely walk 30 mins without being in pain.

Ah ok, apologies. Injury is a bitch, I feel your pain.

    [/table]

My PB is from Dingle this year which I ran as a training run. All going well I'll manage the sub 8min miles the whole way round.

Hoping to do similar, though honestly I think I'll prob let it slip by and do 3.34 ish.

Have you any idea what time I'd want to do the half in if going for 3.30? Would 1.47 say be ok? My first mile or two is always slow and I'm aiming for negative splits and juice in the tank for the last 6 miles rather than bonking.

Today I did 12 miles close to the pace and ended up quite tired by the end, I think because of several consecutive 7.30 miles catching up on the initial two slow ones. Also I figure first half of the DCM course is the hardest. What would a sensible split be?

From site FAQ... . (Note that 3:50 will start at the front of Wave 2). but also wave 1 includes up to,3.35. Where does this leave 3.40 pacer???

Also given the gap between waves if you were targeting sub 3.40 which wave would you go in forgetting about pacers??

Apologies for butting in here: not a participant, just up to support the OH doing it for first time. Last year we went up to support some friends and parked at Dundrum & took the Luas to milltown around mile 20. I may do that again and then Luas in to Stephens green near the finish.
But I might like to get the car inside the marathon route and support her elsewhere. Obviously I can't cross the route with a car so will be depending on a flyover. What is my handiest route in? Chapelizoid bypass? or something else?
Don't drive in Dublin that much, so don't know it well - will be coming in from Naas motorway.
Would parking near chapelizoid be feasible to cheer along there and maybe zip to another point, or the Luas line then?
All advice welcome - might give ye something to post about while busy tapering😜
PS I think ye are all to be much admired, or committed, not sure which. I have certainly a renewed further apprecition of herselfs wonderful qualities since she undertook this mission.

I've been training for 2:55 pace so that I'll have a bit of a buffer for the sub-3 but obviously I'd be delighted with 2:59:59. Of course, I'm new to the distance so that may all prove to be far too ambitious.

My OH had the car last year and managed to get around easily enough and saw us at the start, phoenix park, mill town and the finish. Im not sure where she managed to cross the the course though but I suspect it was around Milltown / Clonskeagh. It all depends where you are coming from but there are some points where they let the traffic by i.e. Fosters Avenue was open last year on one side.

why not park in city centre pick up a dublin bike. Grab a course route map and youll see her many times on the route. Youll need to register first though(for the bike)

There are two places to get inside the route
Drive over it at the Chapelizod bypass
Drive under it on the Stillorgan road, when the race takes the UCD flyover

I think public transport is a better option tbh

I did that last year, was able to catch the action at James Joyce bridge, phoenix park at the zoo and knockmaroon gates and then at chapelizod, didn't venture over the southside.
Cycled back in to the city centre with plenty of time to spare to catch the finish.

Has anyone ever ran a marathon with IT band syndrome? I have it at the minute and got it while doing the 20 mile (which I finished). I've done a few marathons before so I'm not a complete novice but now when I run around 10k I get a twinge. I reckon I could get half way but could end up walking from there but not sure if it's worth the damage.

Why not fix the problem, and do a later marathon when you can run the whole thing?

That's the logical thing but when you've done the training, paid the money, it's on next week and you feel you could get around and enjoy the atmosphere if you sacrificed your time goals then it's difficult just to not do that.

I suppose my only fear would be if it completely seized up or something after 30k in which case I was looking for someone with a similar experience is all.

    I don't think you'd enjoy walking 13 miles with a sore leg

No, but I've run a half with a dodgy hip flexor that went after 3 miles. I finished, but it was the worst race experience I've ever had. It also completely ruined any chance I had of running DCM 2014. I couldn't run for 6 weeks and then only sparingly for another 6. It's still not right to this day and flares up from time to time. If you think its bad enough that you're going to have to stop running at some point then why bother.
