What an excellent day, loved it.

Chip biz give me unofficial time 4.01, wondering if that reduces anyway with an official time??, i'm 3.59 on strava, not really important as i left it all on the course today. curious though.

I've done a few half marathons in the past few months, slowly getting to grips with the distance and have started thinking about taking on a full next summer, with that in mind I went down to Ballsbridge today, circa the 25 mile mark, to take a look at what I'd be in for!
I was struck with an immediate respect for all the participants. I was seeing the 3 hour guys at first, it's an amazing thing to be able to do. All the hours of training and effort that went into each person getting to that point. It's incredible. You could see the guys that still had some in the tank and were kicking for home and the guys that were just clinging on to the finish.

I had heard Dublin was one of the best in terms of crowd support and I can see why, it was amazing in the last two mile stretch at any rate!

Seeing the couples finishing hand in hand and the parents carrying kids across the line was truly inspiring and I walked away determined I'd be there next year. Saw two poor souls collapse after mile 25 hope they're ok.

Congratulations and huge respect to every finisher.

Adding my time!

Delighted with it, ran the first half behind/beside the 4 hour pacers and crossed the half way in 1:59:06. Decided then to run my own race proper for the second half.
Finished strongly over the last 3 miles to get a negative split with 1:59:06/1:58:28. Thrilled with it all...came home in 3:57:34, taking 15mins off my debut time of 4:12:54 from DCM 2015.

I was halfway down Fosters Avenue handing out Jaffa Cakes and Fruit Pastilles.
Hope some of you here got some - I brought 4 boxes of Jaffas and 12 tubes of pastilles and they were gone in 20mins (the 3h40 - 4h00 group mainly).;)
I should have setup a Jaffa Cake Station, maybe next year!!

I made use of the tracker too and put in some random bib numbers I seen coming towards me. When the name popped up on screen, I just shouted their name like I knew them...e.g "lets see, whos bib 1815... thats James Barry, "Go on James, lookin good!!". Oh the startled looks I got was funny. I hope they took encouragement from it anyway.

The amount of work that went in from all the people working, the stewards the help at the bag drop at the expo - it always blows me away

Dunno, but was watching & videoing throughout. Have a look at the Elite Start video....Bike is gone when the field clears...Dunno how!? I was watching for it but saw nothing - musta beamed outa there, a la star trek.

I saw no sign of anyone being injured, or any indication that someone might have been injured. Very surprised that there wasn't a a major pileup - thankfully there wasn't.

I was halfway down Fosters Avenue handing out Jaffa Cakes and Fruit Pastilles.
Hope some of you here got some - I brought 4 boxes of Jaffas and 12 tubes of pastilles and they were gone in 20mins (the 3h40 - 4h00 group mainly).;)
I should have setup a Jaffa Cake Station, maybe next year!!

What a beautiful day and fantastic crowds. My 3rd DCM and I think notably the best supported.

I got stuck in the 2nd wave and was lucky to even get in that as I was supposed to be in the 4th due to lottery etc. Such a deep boot to the balls seeing people in the first wave running 10min mile+ pace straight from the gun and one girl who was honestly 18 stone+ run walking inside the first mile with an orange number on.

Was a bit frustrating at times trying to get through the crowds but the weather/ crowds and a 1min pb made up for it easily. Missed my NY qualy time by 90secs. Guess that keeps me coming back for more.

I will just stick them here, we could only stay for about an hour or so (Bushy Park) but caught the front runners soon after we arrived, enjoyed every min of it. Well done to all competitors it humbles me greatly to read about and then watch the effort involved.

Shocked but absolutely thrilled I finished today. I was in so much pain with my injuries and problem spots I've no idea how I made it. Last marathon for a long while for me. My body needs to be sorted out!

You all have such fast times, congratulations to you all.

To anyone reading this who volunteered or supported today, thank you so much. I was so overwhelmed again this year. A young male volunteer ran over to me when he saw he fiddling to find a tissue and asked was i ok if i needed anything that he could go and fetch it. Such amazing support from everyone. That incident confirmed I will defo volunteer next year.

In general marathons are for running. Dublin allows for walkers and then there's the whole race walking thing , but in general they're for running... If you have to walk bits of it while aiming to run it you've done something wrong (like me ) 😊😊

If you want to go for a longer race, building up to a half next year is doable, just do it gradually and get into the habit of running easy, consistently☺

Not a good day for me in terms of hitting the target but managed to hang on for the C goal and a small PB. No excuses - conditions were perfect. Still -- back to drawing board - still no London or NY qualifier. :rolleyes: a wonderful day though, as always.
