I am putting on a big extension on to my house. we are getting a builder to do the whole project which will take about 8 months . I want to get public liability insurance in case any claim from contractors coming on site etc etc. Can anyone advise what this would typically cost and recommend a insurance company who specialises in this.

    thanks

Would the builders PI not cover this? You are handing him the site on the day of commencement.

Yep you need to ensure that the builder has his insurances in order prior to starting as well as being up to date on, and compliant with health and safety requirements.

Myself as a builder have public liability insurance, never heard of costumer who want to buy one. it cost me 975 euros a year, just for public liability up to 6.5 million as standard. I can PM insurance details if you want to know the insurance company.
