Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Massive congrats to the Green and White Army for getting through to the knockout stage. Now hopefully the Boys in Green can match that feat tomorrow.

Spain v Italy at 5pm next Monday. Pure **** that I won't get to see it.

This new format really pisses me off.

There is nothing wrong with the new format.

It's your eyes. The game is on at 8pm so you should see it if you work normal hours.

Maybe Italy will decide to throw their match against us to avoid Spain? :pac:

    One can always dream :)

Even if they lose tomorrow, they top the group and play Spain.

They can't. They've already won the group no matter what.

England's half of the draw is completely stacked. They will be regretting resting players against Slovakia now.

No surprise Spain lost, they are still playing a style of football that has consistently been exposed in the last few years by counter attacking sides and teams that pile men behind the ball.

Conte will be now firmly focused on the Spain game, could be beneficial for us.

What on earth is Ramos taking a penalty? I said that before he took it as well, joke that a centre half is taking it.

Ramos is usually a great penalty kick taker

The goalie was about 5 meters to far out

Indeed, I don't get this thing of being annoyed at defenders taking penalties, as if they should be incapable, while strikers should somehow all be awesome at them.

The reality is that some people are good at pens, others are bad, regardless of position.

Ramos is generally good at penalties. Torres is generally shocking at them. It's just not really a skillset that's defined entirely by one's position.

What's his record taking penalties then? It's not like he takes them for his club or scores them regularly, sure he has a decent strike of a ball but someone like Aduriz has come off a season scoring 36 goals and took penalties for Bilbao this season. He really should be ahead of Ramos.

Anything to be said for Italy letting us win 10 so they don't have to play Spain?

Does it work like that? It should

They could always not field a team, meaning we get 3 points and they probably get docked 3...

That goal has just totally changed the entire tournament, now means that two of Spain, Italy and Germany will be out before the SF, Croatia with a serious chance to win it now, win the last 16 they will play either Poland or Switzerland in the QF glad i backed them at 25/1 now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,289 ✭✭✭✭rob316

Ya Croatia look great value now, very unlucky not to win all 3 games in that group. Considering none of the usual suspects look anyway consistent it could very well be an outsider that wins it.

Some reward for Italy for winning the group, play Spain in the second round, and Germany in the quarter finals. Belgium on the other hand will have Hungary/Portugal/Iceland in the second round, and Wales/Turkey/Northern Ireland in the quarter finals! Mad stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,048 ✭✭✭Unearthly

That's a bit mad. How did they decide that Italy a group winner with possible maximum points gets a group runner up while Wales with 6 points gets a 3rd place team?
