Hi, I have an elderly relative who wishes to empty and close their account. He is pretty much housebound although can make short trips with help. What would be the easiest way for him to go about closing his account? What would he need to bring to his branch to ensure it's done there and then and doesn't need a second visit. Also, will a branch accept an appointment for this sort of thing rather than have him wait around? Many thanks.

    Good Morning Whispered,

Thank you for getting in contact with us here on Boards.ie.

There are 2 ways in which they can close their account. Firstly, they can send a written letter to the branch to request this. If there is a balance left in the account of over E5 then they can provide instruction in the letter as to where this is to be returned to. Should they wish for it to be sent to another account then they'll need to provide the Sort Code, Account number IBAN & BIC and account name. They can also request for the amount to be returned to their address in a draft format.

They can also call into the branch directly and we would certainly advise making an appointment to do this as it will help avoid any delays. You can book an appointment here on our website.

I hope this helps and is you need anything else, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

    Elaine
