Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We were the better side no doubt.. playing some very good football.. moving it fast with a bit of purpose and pace and mixing it up nicely ... Italy sloppy and looking half arsed which suits us.... this ref though... fųcks sake..

I expect Italy to come out strong in the second half. I hope I'm wrong

This ref will be getting the ride off an Irish wan today

What are you on about? The ref has chickened out of at least 2 penos for us in the first half alone. Ireland have been great in fairness

Hard to get a penalty call that's any more obvious than that one, tbh. Find it hard to believe that the ref could have missed it, and even harder to believe that anyone could interpret that as a legal tackle.

Indeed... cheaper and more useful to grab a few leftover mannequins from cleary's and stick a uniform on them... a joke...

How that gob****e didn't see a blantant penalty STANDING BEHIND IT is beyond me.
    We are playing fantastically well

Did he ref the match in Escape to Victory?

No doubt a peno would be given if we where France , Spain , Germany or even Italy !!!

Not enough words for how much bullsh*t that it is.

Why the **** is nobody getting in the refs ear at half time? MON should make Roy have a word in his ear. We need to start intimidating this ref like a lot of the big teams would.

Naivety and we will pay for it! The players should be in his face ala Terry, Wayne Rooney, every big team!

The Ref is a ****ing dog, total disgrace that we should have 2 penalties :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,590 ✭✭✭baldbear

The ref knew he made a mistake the way he twitched with that ear piece after. He knew he messed up.

I'd say the Turkish mafia have him paid off.

The selection seems justified so far and Ireland are playing well and the only team really making things happen. A point is no good though so hopefully we dont get hit on the counter even though at the moment Ireland look more likely to score even if it could be through a penalty cos the Italians have their arms all over the place at times and maybe the ref will be wisened up to this and also might be feeling some pressure after not giving one for the foul on McLean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,546 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

What we wanted to happen is happening, Italy are not at the races and are just defending.

We need to be more creative.

The penalty decision was shocking. Blatant penalty and makes me wonder about the ref's integrity to be honest.

We have the players, this game shows it, have we dominated possession, ****ing class. So happy with this performance, well done the lads.

Fantastic performance. In terms of effort, every single player gave 100%. The only problem is we have a lack of quality in the final third. The fact that we are reliant on a penalty is troubling.

Look at the pen Spain got last night, and Austria earlier

We had 3-4 claims for penalties far worse in one half!

Italians not interested in this, we need to give wes at least 40 mins, in for Brady and take ward off

The half time team talk should include instructing the Irish players to surround the referee and make his life miserable every-time he gives a crappy decision so he dreads waving play-on. Hes obviously scared of making a big call against a big nation, the Irish players need to make him more afraid of another confrontation with them.

Fuming after that. Conte is gonna throw on the big guns now and finish us in a split second.

Wasn't it because the UK company behind Hawkeye (used in the EPL) offered it to FIFA/UEFA after the 2012 WC and Sepp etc said to "get f*cked c*nts, extra linesmen are better!"?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

If it was the other way around with Italy needing a win it would have been a peno

The ref bottled it, less fallout if you give a wrong decision a big nations way

Hope you are not an Ireland fan please don't let the greatest fans in the universe down. Penalty was very similar to Silva's the other night far from stonewall ogbonna one worse but hardly ever penalised

The Italians don't give a crap about this match. They are only focussed on Spain. They just about tried an attack in the whole half. We need to show more quality plain and simple. We have been on the front foot but need to capitalise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,915 ✭✭✭Morrison J

The number of people who don't rate McClean on here is ridiculous. We're a different side with him out there. Both more solid defensively and more of an attacking threat.

Reckon people not liking McClean the person gets in the way of the fact he's clearly one of our better footballers.

Unbelievable call not to give the penalty. Would be worried that we won't be able to repeat that in the second half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,479 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

We never contested that drop ball on 17th min .
    Wtf .
We just let them have it .

Some on twitter think the referee forgot his guide dog, and Stevie Wonder would have seen it was a penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

Good first half. One thing Im a bit worried about is when we get the ball in defence there doesn't really seem to be much of an outlet. At one stage Coleman McCarthy and Duffy I think were playing around with it and couldn't get out of the corner. Keogh and Duffy have looked a bit clueless on the ball - not knowing what to do with it.

Other than that we've looked good. Keep it up lads!

Tackle from behind. It's a foul anywhere on the pitch.

"I think we should play like that all the time... "

Yeah, John, all we need is for every international football team that we play against to put out their second team, then that should work.

Even if we lose/draw play like this from now on and we will do good. Young enough team out there now. Blatant penalty on McLean

That ref should never ref at a major tournament again after that disgrace of a first half.

Small teams need those big decisions.

    It's just not fair.

Yeah, John, all we need is for every international football team that we play against to put out their second team, then that should work.

He's comparing it to how they played against Belgium where the stood off and didn't pass. This is better.

The ref is f-ucking is big time

I have to say those ads during the football breaks are nauseating..

Beer promoted by rich footballers who never drink beer.
Fast food promoted when rich footballers would never eat the same food.
UEFA calling for fair play, when football is so hugely corrupt.

    I feel dirty. :(
