Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I wonder what happens up the other end?

I hope we have the energy and the concentration in the second half. Remember it was 0-0 at halftime in the Belgium game.

Small teams need those big decisions.

    It's just not fair.

We need some luck here surely we are due some

A bounce of a ball or a penalty can be the difference. The referee is scared to give us a penalty, I dont know why Italy dont need a win

When you see Croatia's non penalty versus Spain's penalty last night, then that non penalty on McClean it's hard not to think that smaller teams are getting hard done by.

Who's the designated penalty taker with Keane or Walters not on the pitch?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,631 ✭✭✭Dirty Dingus McGee

McClean's been excellent great determination from him and his bringing a bit of life to our play.

The penalty decision is disgraceful yet again another decision could cost us.

If Roy Keane has any purpose on this team he should have been sent to give the referee an absolutely bollocking in the tunnel at half time maybe scare him into giving us one to make up for it.

That ref should never ref at a major tournament again after that disgrace of a first half.

The Danish ref that screwed us over the Henry handball in the qualifiers was rewarded with going to the world cup as a referee as were his fellow officials from that night...

We'll roll over if Italy strike first. Hopefully they've put the peno call out of their hands and keep up their game. Fingers, legs and toes crossed for the second half!!

What has he had to say?

Said it was a definite peno for United

The standard of refereeing in general has been abysmal at this tournament.
It was always building to a decision (or indecision) like the penalty shout since the incident with Long and the keeper. Very soft free awarded for the foul on the keeper and then a yellow for Long. He's out of his dept here and the crowd and the intensity of the Irish play is too much for him.

Genuinely a situation where you wish Uefa could use subs.

Ogbonna having Murphy in a headlock was a stonewall penalty too

Belgium had to win that game and came out accordingly. Italy wil be dreading injuries/cards.

    BBC:
Former referee Howard Webb speaks ...

He talks about the amount of wrestling Italian defenders have been getting away with at corners, then says that Bernardeschi gets a touch on the ball as he comes in from behind McClean, but points out that he probably caught McClean with his hip before he got the ball. He says it was probably a penalty, but can appreciate why the referee didn’t give it. Bah!

    FU H. Webb

Why would a perfectly positioned ref not give that obvious penalty.?

I suppose the bug teams like Italy and Germany and France have to go through, uefa, fifa have decreed. Sad to see football is still corrupt even after blatter.

Karma for that ref, maybe chemo will save him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,243 ✭✭✭✭briany

At least the players are having a proper go here. It will be interesting to see how this develops in the second half. Italy to come out with a pep talk? The Irish to start feeling the effects of their chasing combined with the humidity? Ireland to continue pressing as they did in the first half? Italy to get on the front foot?

That's as maybe but didn't Doyle miss a golden chance when clean through on goal?

IIRC that would have won it for us..

Italy are already through though, it's Turkey or Albania who would miss out if we won here. He's just a blind gobshîte, end of.

It wouldn't even be a big decision though...Italy are sorted, they wouldn't really give a **** if they lost. It should be win/win for the ref to favour if anything, the only team who this actually matters to.
