Recovering txt messages, photos, whatsapp attachments & emails from an iPhone (free)?

    Friend has an iPhone 4s (possibly a 5, they're not sure). Screen smashed & nothing displays, but they want to recover some files.

    Is there anything (free) that can run from a mac & pull all the stuff over to save it?

    Best plan would be to plug it into iTunes and make a backup, restore backup onto new phone.

    Yes. Not music, though. And you can only restore in full onto another iPhone.

    It's also possible they already have a backup in iCloud — once you are logged in it automatically backs up once a day — so connecting to iTunes may not be necessary. But do it anyway just in case.
