Ireland's favourite country song...... written by Bob Dylan and sung by a scouser.

    What was the other contenders?

Nathan Carter has also scooped 'Best Male' at Irish TV's ICMA's

    What a night it's been :D

Its truly a great time to be alive.

But did Daniel get a prize? Surely he wasn't allowed to leave without a lifetime achievement award?

Jimmy Buckley best male vocalist, seen him live a few times and agree on that!
But that fn song, "your wedding day", of his drives me scatty and I cant remember a wedding I ve been to in years that doesent plays it at some stage.
My nomination for next years song never to be sung or played again!

I'd say Nathan expected to clean up winning best male and entertainer of the year which he didn't :P

I'm kinda dissppointed that Cliona Hagan didn't win an award for her fantastically upbeat and cheery song "We're All Going to Die Someday"

"Mamma's on pills, Daddy's over the hill,
But we're all going to die someday"

    Existentialism meets Irish country music.

    Who'd have thunk it?? ;)

I spent the first thirty seconds trying to work out if that was a parody of the typical country song, but no, apparently she's actually f**king serious!

    Don't think so P.
Good looking hot geahala showing off her ass on video with an upbeat country song trying to get the young lads in to see her in dance venues, is what I see.
Mrs Bishop loves country music and I regularly have to sit and watch various satelite channels showing this muck, funny though, she always turns that one off.

I started to watch this last night but I only lasted until "The four Roads to Glenamaddy"....I lost the will to stay the pace and then I started to fixate on Daniel's hair...I exixit it as they say....

Still, looked like everyone had a swinging time............. :)

    Good for them!

Very disappointing. Why did the amazing singer Gloria not sing her song one day at a time instead of a wannabe from Scotland. Just glad big Tom sang his song. Way the show was run I half expected the scouser to sing on behalf of big tom.

Have organisers ever heard of an amazing singer from limerick called michael collins. Why was he not there ?. He won glor tire a couple of years ago.

Collins isn't big enough for these shows. It's an award show for the big bands on the scene, just like pretty much every other one (IrishTV, Sunday World, etc)

Of course michael collins would be big enough for the awards. He packs houses everywhere. Compared to cliona hagan for example. Did she get an award because philomena s son is her manager. Philomena s son was booted out of glor tire on the first voting. Whereas michael collins deservedly won the whole show

Look him up on Facebook. He is an amazing irish country western singer on the road for last 20 years. Not a blow in from Merseyside or worse still Scotland. Irish country awards should be for irish singers.

I'm not a big fan, but I believe Carter has his roots in Irish music, going back to his childhood and being involved in ceolthas in Liverpool.
Heard that on a local radio station lately.

They are irish country and western awards. Not scouser or Scottish awards. The votes sent to farmers journal were not the ones given out. The while thing was probably even decided months ago. Thank god for big tom. Mike denier and jimmy buckley. At least they are irush. And brilliant singers.

Reality Check: Very few people have heard of Michael Collins The Country Singer outside wherever he comes from.

He is from limerick. Sings all around country. Not too often in dublin which is a shame. He won glor tire on tg4 a country and western talent show a couple of years ago. Reality check who the heck is Lisa mc hugh ???

Lads, lads, lads - calm down ta fcuk will ye

Few things here have got my goat up.

Proof please! I know it's the internet, but ya will be challenged on this stuff. Provide the proof of this, or button it on it.

Next, Lisa McHugh is a much higher profile artist than Michael Collins. Sells more albums, in the public eye more, etc, etc. Whether she's better or worse as an artist I couldn't give a monkeys. Fact is, she's more widely known.

Carter was brought up in Liverpool with a massive Irish influence, especially in the music he listened to, and later performed as a career. There is no doubting, he is the biggest artist in the Irish scene now, and deserves to be awarded for his achievements to date. End of.

Finally, on Michael Collins. Yes he is immensely popular, predominately in the Munster area, and South Leinster too I guess. His appearance on Glór Tíre didn't propel him to the level of Lisa McHugh. In fact, out of all the artists on that programme, she has carved a much more successful career out of it. Look at other winners such as Michael Regan. His career didn't take off wildly either after his triumph. Collins is a hit on the social dancing scene, much like others in other areas of the country are. None are national like those awarded on Friday.

Finally, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. These awards are a joke. Same people win constantly, though amazingly enough, probably in other categories. At the end of the day, it's the decision of a committee somewhere (except the public votes) on Friday. The next awards will see the same people, but they win in a different category. I wouldn't read too much into it. We all have our favourites, and not everyone can win, and everyone won't agree. No need to have a fit over it

Can I just leave you with the profound words of Lisa McHugh.

"I'm a hillbilly girl in a hillbilly world But that don't bother me
Well I ain't that bright, But I know what's right, From mistakes and my colour TV"

I'm not sure the feminists would be happy with that one, but then I dont think feminism was ever big among the hillbilly people.

Your thread makes a lot of sense. Yeah same people winning it year after year. I am a massive country and western fan and can honestly say I have never heard of lisa mc hugh. To be truthfull I was so happy to see one of irelands best singers " Gloria " in the audience. I was furious that she wasn't the chosen artist to sing the amazing song ' one day at a time '. Which if you recall she had in the charts for months at no.1. To see in my opinion an unknown Scottish person singing it in front of her has really annoyed me.

I have to agree. These awards are all a who you know rather than how good one is in many ways. RTE seem to be obsessed with the likes of Mike Denver and Derek Ryan. I cannot see anything whatsoever in Ryan's original songs (while most of his recorded output is modern, bland, contemporary poor material, he can do a convincing version of an obscure 1950s song called 'There Stands The Glass' too and he should do more of these type of songs). Yet he wins songwriter of the year. The sad problem is as poor as Ryan's originals like Hold Onto Your Hat are they are better than Lee Matthews' original songs and the like.

Thankfully, a whole lot of awful ex boyband singers did not get a look in which is good. Matthews for one. You could argue there was a lot of singers who do traditional country music winning here instead of a complete set of ex boyband singers. Jimmy Buckley, Philomena Begley, Big Tom, etc. all are mostly traditional style country. Nathan Carter is good at what he does and can balance things by doing a lot of older country along with more modern stuff. He also is a good musician as well which is rare these days for solo singers in any genre that gets promoted here.

TBF I'd say they are all hard working, doing many concert or dance gigs all over Ireland and UK night after night
