Hard luck to Northern Ireland though, and especially McAuley - they played far better than us.

Good result for the tournament. Wales are an infinitely better team and will offer more in the later stages of the tournament. Well done to NI for getting this far but they are woefully limited.

Not as s***e as that bloody Will Grigg one. It's become the vuvuzela of this tournament. For that reason alone, thank God the Nordies are on their way home. No more "Will Grigg's on fire".

Yep. Next one might be harder to call

Meh as Duff just said it wasn't exactly a highly charged derby.

Interviewer to Chris Coleman: 'Not the Wales performance we're used to, does that put a dampener on today at all?'

He's through to the quarter-finals; I don't think he cares if it was a snoozefest.

Well he did miss that one on one vs France.

Thank god NI are out, really boring team, at least Wales have a chance against Belgium or Hungary, NI just defend and have no quality going forward.

There have been ROI fans supporting at NI games.

Edit: Unless it's the one guy. :P

There was a group being interviewed from the North going over that was mixed between both North and Republic fans so not everyone is bitter

Looking forward to Ireland's typical Barcelona-like performance tomorrow right enough.

    Some nonsense on here.

What's Shearer going on about? Calling it 'great leadership' that Williams wouldn't go off despite being clearly injured.

Great leadership would have been sacrificing himself so that they had a fully fit guy back there who could still throw the shoulder in the final key minutes.

They did get two goals vs. Ukraine, but then Ukraine were the worst team in the tournament. Overall, they did not really show the quality they had to qualify for the tournament by right, though. I'd say a few NI fans will be feeling the team could have given a better acquittal of itself.

The main difference was that Wales just had a bit more skill going forward. More than a shade of the Clark OG v. Sweden. Have to be sickened by that. How bad must the player at fault be feeling?

Is he wrong in what he said.

They've offered barely nothing going forward.

Ireland don't have to be a great team in order for someone to criticise N.I

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 417 ✭✭Green Fella

That was an appalling match. Wales were very lucky there, it was a fairly even contest but poor standard. They really depend on Gareth Bale an awful lot, shame he got so much space for the cross. Northern Ireland ran out of steam really, a game like that is where the quality of someone like Bale makes the difference.

I honestly dont see much stopping Croatia going to the final with this lopsided draw.

McCauley will feel bad but really the Wales player was definitely going to score it anyway, Robson Kanu I think was there in the perfect position

No problem with proper criticism, but the "thank god NI are out" nonsense, is he going to be expressing the same delight if an equally limited team are knocked out against France tomorrow?

Not so sure about that, or at least if you are you've kept it a good secret so far.

Don't want to get into a dick measuring contest here but there is some outright absurd points of view on here, and you'd be forgiven for thinking that Ireland are some sort of exciting, attacking footballing side.

I actually was impressed by N Irelands attack considering the level of their players. It didnt happen for them today though but there wasnt much between the 2 sides.

Ireland have played 3 games and played well in 2 (at both ends of the field) so a decent enough standard of performance so far in the tournament.

N.I. have played in 4 games and have offered nothing going forward in 3 of the 4 games they've played.

Also he's hardly going to be happy about his own team being eliminated, you can afford to be more honest when your assessing another team.

Todays match and Wales tournament so far really shows the difference between an average team without a world class player and an average team with a world class player.

Even though he hasn't been brilliant Bale can pull something from nothing and win his team a game while teams like NI and ourselves don't have that luxury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,048 ✭✭✭Unearthly

Northern Ireland will be happy with a last 16 appearance. Over achievement for the players they have.

They'll do well to qualify for another tournament any time soon

I wouldn't agree with that. They have an ok group outside of Germany for the WC. They have a decent shot of qualifying.

Not really since it is only top of the group is certain of qualifying for the World Cup.

May have a chance of 2nd spot and into the play offs but 1 2nd place team will miss out since there is 9 groups

Nope, but we are better than NI. Though if we played you I fear it would turn into the same type of horrible game of huff and puff non football that we witnessed today.
